Day one – After a late-ish evening after everyone had come in from points various, we woke up to a fine day and a very calm looking sea, which is an ever present view from the super hotel and golf course. To start our coaching we looked how good our warm up were (in some cases you will be surprised to learn they were non existent!) We looked at some general swing principles and good things to practice to improve the mechanics of our swings. As we always preach “it’s all about impact!” We had a good morning and after lunch and a putting review headed out to the course for a 9 hole loosen up. It didn’t take long for the group to get going with birdies by Kathy on the second and Tom on the 4th, an eye catching way to start. Sunny skies and a gentle breeze added to a very pleasant afternoon.
Monday we had a short game review and looked at aspects of low and high shots around the green. I always think that in this part of the game, apart from the obvious improvements practice and tuition will bring us here, it also improves our overall understanding of striking the ball in our full swing. We were joined by DSG regular and Tenerife resident, Arnold for today and tomorrow so we decided on a bit of gentle competition with a team event in the afternoon. With a very strong performance on the back nine, the trio of Tricia, Val and Chris were our winners.
On Tuesday we looked at combating slopes on the course and how they affect the shape of our shots. We also looked at controlling our distances with the wedges and playing low shots. With the numbers, our golf today was in teams of four with two out of four scores to count. The quartet of Arnie, John, Trish & Lesley had an amazing back nine of 45 points, which would win pretty well any competition, so well done them!
The day off had six of our group playing a further 9 holes in the morning and everyone then opted for either R&R in the afternoon or a few treatments.
Thursdays golf featured a pre round review of everyone’s swing on the slow motion camera. It is always good to analyse the positions and then work on the drills to improve our movements. In the afternoon we had a pairs event and as always at any DSG event it was keenly contested. A very close contest with some great play all round and eventually Trish and Chris ran out winners on 39 points by one from Val & Kathy. Trish had a grandstand finish paring the last two difficult holes.
Our last day arrived all too soon and we had a review of all of our ideas on the range. The weather was a tad wet for our opening hole and then a really sunny afternoon broke out. Everyone wanted to see if their pairs of yesterday could perform again today. The answer for Trish & Chris was a resounding yes and the accrued an impressive 42 points on a breezy afternoon to win the final day.
A great week blessed with super weather and a great group of people. We finished off in style with a lovely dinner in the niche Salazar restaurant in the hotel.
Look forward to seeing you all again.
All the best
