Why Coaching Weekends Are About More Than Just Better Golf – May 2026
Why Coaching Weekends Are About More Than Just Better Golf
The recent Bank Holiday Coaching Break at Barnham Broom reminded me exactly why I love hosting these golf weekends.
Set just outside Norwich, Barnham Broom is a fantastic resort with everything a golfer could need. Two championship golf courses, a four-hole academy course, driving range, short-game area, hotel, gym, and spa, all on-site, make it the perfect setting for a few days away focused on improving your game.
Over three days, our group enjoyed coaching sessions, mindset workshops, 45 holes of golf, plenty of laughter, and some excellent food along the way.
More Than Just Golf
One thing I’ve realised over the years is that golfers join these trips for many different reasons.
Some are looking to build confidence.
Others want a pre-season check-up and a refresh of their technique.
Many simply want to spend time with like-minded golfers who enjoy improving and learning in a relaxed environment.
Our coaching focuses heavily on the areas that make the biggest difference to scoring, particularly the short game. It’s often the quickest route to lower scores and greater enjoyment on the course.
Alongside the technical coaching, we spent time discussing mindset, course management and how to take your practice onto the golf course where it really matters.
A Story We’ll All Remember
One of the highlights of the week wasn’t a great shot or a low score. It was Katherine.
Katherine joined us as a complete beginner and took part in the coaching sessions throughout the trip. While the more experienced golfers headed onto the course, she focused on learning the fundamentals and building confidence.
Then, on the final day, she achieved something special. For the first time in her life, she played golf on a golf course, taking on the academy course at Barnham Broom.
What makes the story even more meaningful is why she started golf in the first place.
Her father, now 80 years old, had always wanted her to play. Just two days after returning home, Katherine played her first nine holes with her dad at Goodwood.
To think that a weekend of coaching helped create that moment between father and daughter is incredibly rewarding.
Now her golfing journey continues, and she’ll be able to enjoy many more rounds with her father in the years ahead.
The golf throughout the weekend was excellent, with golfers making improvements, gaining confidence and taking new ideas onto the course.
The evenings were equally enjoyable. Barnham Broom looked after us brilliantly, and the food was exceptional throughout the stay. Personal highlights included the Tandoori Salmon and a fantastic Pavlova, both of which were as memorable as some of the golf!
Most importantly, everyone made us feel incredibly welcome, helping to create a relaxed atmosphere where golfers could learn, improve and enjoy themselves.
Whether you’re looking to improve your confidence, sharpen your short game, prepare for the season ahead or simply enjoy a few days immersed in golf, these weekends provide the perfect opportunity.
After another successful trip to Barnham Broom, I’m already looking forward to the next one.
I hope to see some of you there.
