San Lorenzo Golf Tour
A warm welcome from the Dona Filipe Hotel on our return for the first of the 3 week program at this popular 5 star hotel, unfortunately it was not matched by the weather! It seems it is not only Britain that has experienced a long wet winter, even our “get away to the sun” golf resorts have suffered. However, my enthusiastic group battled through the week, helped by the accommodating golf clubs of Pinheiros Altos and San Lorenzo, who with courses almost filled to capacity, helped us reschedule coaching and tee times, even finding a Saturday 7:48 slot for four die hards to get in 18 holes before flying home in the evening.
These golf tour weeks with clinics are not heavy coaching weeks and people come with different agendas. Ian, a fine striker of the ball playing off 5, wanted to tighten up his short game, while Fraser, 26 h’cap needed to eliminate a tendency to frequently visit the right hand side of the course! While not perfecting anything in one week, I think Ian left with a feel for a more solid technique he can now practice and I’m sure a reduction in handicap will soon follow. Fraser made a dramatic change to his grip, and is highly commended for sticking with it! Along with a couple of other pointers, he persevered throughout the week and was beginning to see the fruits of his labours on the final day. Hopefully everyone left with an idea or two of how they might improve a little this coming season.
The golf was a little curtailed, however, Ian, Robert and Simon won our first team event at Pinheiros Altos and Ian and Robert along with Anne also won the second day at San Lorenzo. Ian making a clean sweep of things when he and Jim won the final day 4bbb with 38 points to Fraser and Patrick’s 37. Although a little disappointing weather wise, the group got along famously and evenings at several fine restaurants were much enjoyed by all.
Hope to see you soon.

Even the unseasonal weather on the Algarve in early April, could not reduce the excellence of San Lorenzo. It is a wonderful course with many fine holes, in a superb location. The newly refurbished Dona Filipe hotel was a great base and David made sure that we made the best of the weather.

As the autumnal weather sets in here in the UK there is nothing nicer than looking forward to next spring at SL
A credit to the whole experience, I’m looking forward to a full 2 weeks with you, Liz and the gang next spring.
Thanks for both the coaching and the forbearance – handicap now down to 22 !! Which is a struggle at times to play to. Thats about £1000 a point – worth every penny, thank you
2019 … Target 18 because that makes the scoring easier – cheque to follow !!
Have a great festive season, play well, enjoy the travel and very much looking forward to SL next year
