A special thank you to Pru Sedden for arranging to bring a group of 12 Surrey based Ladies to the Algarve for one of our Algarve golf holidays. Blessed with endless blue skies, temperatures in the mid twenties and, yet again, a group praising the Robinson Club (especially the dining) and the facilities at 36 hole Quinta da Ria.
A bespoke week which included golf clinics, a little personal tuition and five rounds on the two courses was much enjoyed by the ladies ranging from 20 to 34 handicap. It was such a pleasure having these keen to learn and improve ladies along. Trying to simplify a game that has so many elements and millions of words written about it is always the challenge on this type of event. I try and keep giving the same message to instil good basics and I think come the end of the week we were getting there!
Congratulations to Vicky and Helen for scoring a superb 43 pts to win the 4 BBB on Thursday and again to Helen, a great inspiration to her partners I am told, along with Pru and Sue for winning the Friday team event with another fine score of 84 pts. However, this was achieved with a little help of our fun rules for the day that allowed each player a Mulligan, a throw and a kick!
Pauline won the 2nd hole nearest the pin, hitting a good 6 iron to 12 feet, the only person to hit the green. A different story on the 17th where first Rachel hit to about 15 feet but Pru prevailed with a shot to 10 feet, calmly rolled the putt up to the hole and side footed it in using her kick!
In the last group Linda found water with her first shot, used her mulligan to tee up again, bunkered it and then put her new found sand shots into good use, splashing out to 4 feet and holing for a 3!
A fun way to finish the week which got the tactical brain working to take advantage of their free “shots”. A few prizes were presented over a most enjoyable final dinner and I think the provisional booking to return same week next year speaks for its self.
