Hello from sunny Spain! May is upon us and hopefully your golf courses are drying out and getting back to normal following one of the wettest winters on record – spare a thought for your green keeping staff.
I am fortunate to be able to play my winter golf in warmer climates and what a difference it makes. A freer swing, no cold, tight muscles, less clothing, not to mention warm hands for better feel and a golf ball that flies further in warmer air! Now is the time, if you have not already done so, to get down the range, and pardon the pun, get back into the swing of it. And please, practice with purpose, its not a race to see who can empty the bucket of balls the quickest!!
My first three weeks of May will be spent in Spain and Portugal while Barney embarks on his UK programme. Now he is more free from his previous day to day club commitments at Mid Herts G.C. Barney is taking over much of the summer teaching and coaching programme at Staverton Park. As I’ve stated previously, I feel very fortunate a coach of his ability and demeanor is able to join David Short Golf on a more regular basis. He will however, still be available at Mid Herts for private coaching.
On my return from Iberia I will be looking forward to our summer schedule outside of Staverton Park, non more so than Italy to where we have been travelling for almost seven years and each time has been an absolute joy. The culture, the people, the wine, the food and the golf, all elegance personified. We travel this year to the Bologna region, with five nights in Bologna itself and then five nights in Salsomaggiore, close to the charming city of Parma. We will play six rounds of golf, enjoy two fascinating half day tours, as well as a trip to the Ferrari museum on the day that we transfer from one hotel to the other. Bookings are good, but there are still a few places on what I am sure will be another fabulous tour to Italy commencing June 29th.
Looking further ahead, I was sceptical in the lead up to the Malmo Golf Week last year and yet it was the highlight of the year for me! I know that Sweden is not the most obvious destination for a golf tour, but my word it is certainly a good one and I am immensely looking forward to the tour to Gothenburg. With plenty of flights from all over the UK access to Gothenburg is very good. We will stay at a super hotel in the City, no doubt enjoying fine restaurants as we did in Malmo, play five of the top courses in the area and enjoy a half day City sightseeing tour on the Wednesday morning. I know that last years attendees will wholly endorse this Tour departing 17th September.
Hello from Staverton Park, Daventry,
I have everything crossed for some excellent weather in the UK for the rest of the Golf and Coaching and Academy programme here during the summer.
Looking forward to November, we return to Madeira where we had an excellent trip last year, superb weather and a brace of hole in ones! I really enjoyed the challenge of both courses on the island and on top of excellent golf they offer terrific view. The Tenerife week offers first class golf and apres golf. A great opportunity to grab some sun before the winter sets in at home.
I hope you fancy coming on one if not both of these weeks as they promise to be really interesting, great golfing and above all fun!
Availability & Bookings
As is very apparent from David and Barney’s entries above, the bookings for virtually all of our events this year have been immensely strong. Thank you to all clients who have booked and we very much hope that each event has lived up to, or indeed exceeded, expectations.
The UK spring and summer events are also proving popular, and as Barney has mentioned above, as soon as we are within a few weeks of an event commencing, any remaining spaces seem to vanish very quickly.
With regards to the autumn season, we do still have places available on the Tavira Golf & Coaching Week in Portugal in October, and also the Porto Golf & Cuisine Week. The available places for this event though are now beginning to dwindle; hence if you are interested in these events, please let me know as soon as is convenient.
April is always one of our busiest months, but now we have negotiated our way through the admin, I can begin to really focus on rolling out the programme for December onwards. Please look out for both a Christmas and New Year tour being hosted by Barney and Jennie (Lagos and Vilamoura in Portugal respectively), the Spain Golf & Coaching and Golf Week programme and the annual tour to South Africa in February. All of the details will be featuring on the web-site in the coming weeks. We will also then extend the programme to the end of May 2017 to enable you to plan well ahead.
Thanks again for your bookings, or your intent to book. All that we do is ultimately to provide you, our clients, with the services and experiences that you value.
Following the majority of our events, David and Barney write a blog post giving snippets of information from the event (two hole in ones on a past event), sometimes pictures or a golfing tip. We try to email anyone who has attended the trip to let them know when the website has been updated with the post and ask for their views on the trip. Please, please, please let us have your comments for the site. We will never be Trip Advisor, but we and other clients would love your views on the courses played and the events. Thank you.
Finally, huge congratulations to Masters Champion, Danny Willet, now there’s a man who knows how to close a tournament out! Solid as a rock under immense pressure and several other English and Europeans in the mix throughout the week. How about a clean sweep for Majors and the Ryder Cup for Europe in 2016?!
With kind regards,
David and the team
