Langkawi proved to be a wonderfully relaxing Island. A great place to relax, recover from the flight and adjust to 30+degrees. Teeing off at 9.00, before the main heat of the day, allowed us to return to our beach side resort and soak up the sun, swim, or for the more energetic participate in a variety of water sports – for my part, a first invigorating Jet Ski experience.
Our accommodation in individual stilted wooden huts, set above the beach and built into the wooded hill side was a truly peaceful setting. Five restaurants to wander to in the evening included the Thai set out in the ocean and naturally cooled by the sea breeze – heaven!
Unfortunately the Els resort course on which we had planned two rounds was still closed for maintenance work, however, the Gunung Raya GC proved a fine substitute for our escorted golf tour and was much enjoyed twice. In between rounds we took a site seeing tour by cable car to Langkowi’s second highest peak and played the second days golf at the 99 Golf Club. The 99, so called as it is an excellent championship design but has only 9 holes which you play twice. The Els course being closed is a great excuse to return to Langkowi next time we we are in this region!
