We arrived in the scenic Pegwell Bay, on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon to start our Golf Tour. After drinks on the patio, we all had a nice dinner to set us up for our first game at Princes Golf Club.
Although Monday was a cooler day, only a light breeze to contend with, which as we know by the seaside is a blessing! We had a team competition and Richard, Rosemary and Bryan with a best out of three racked up an impressive 45 points. The runners up could console themselves with the fact that this total would have won a members competition quite easily.
Our second day was the lovely North Foreland with brilliant views over the Channel. An interesting course, more parkland like, but with a links feel as overlooking the sea. The course was in excellent order and the scoring matched the conditions. The leading teams both had 23 points on the front 9 holes, however Vanessa, Patrick and Richard then rolled in 24 points on the back. It all started with a gross birdie for Vanessa on the 9th giving them a 5 pointer. So averaging just under 3 points a hole for the last 10 holes is winning by any ones standard. A nice drink on the patio over looking the course was a great way to finish our day.
Off to Littlestone on the Wednesday and this was a classic links test. As our friends North of the Border say, if there’s nay wind, there’s nay golf. Littlestone was pleasingly breezy to keep us concentrating. A pairs competition was the format today and Abi and Bryan turned on the style with an amazing 43 points. Another drink on another patio was the feature of this trip!
We were at Walmer and Kingsdown just outside Dover with some amazing views of the famous White Cliffs. An interesting layout and some challenging slopes to contend with. The feature of this trips is how good the putting surfaces have been and this course was no exception. That’s not to say we read or made perfect strokes each time, but we had no excuses. A fun day out and a nice finish with 44 points for Bryan, Abi and Barney tying with Patrick, Vanessa and Jennie.
Our Golf Tour finished at the beautiful tree lined Canterbury Golf Club. A perfect golfing day with sun and a feathering breeze as opposed to the brisker varieties on the coast. As with all the courses we played, the putting surfaces were excellent and we all looked forward to playing there again in the future.
A super tour and a part of the world I hadn’t visited for several years and definitely won’t leave it so long for the next visit. Great golf and great onion rings!
Look forward to seeing you all again.
All the best
