A Memorable Week of Golf in Tavira, Portugal – Jan 2024

Just got back from a spectacular week in Tavira, Portugal, as my first official coaching week for David and wow, what a great trip it was. Eight wonderful clients joined me and on one of the days we had the pleasure of Chris from Barney’s group who was staying at the Robinsons resort.

Our mornings kicked off with coaching sessions that truly set the tone for what was to be an incredible week. We started with a mind-set morning on the first day, writing goals, intentions and learning how to use the mind better on the golf course. We proceeded to the practise ground for some clinics and coaching on long game and chipping.  A great day of coaching which incorporated practice techniques and drills that promised quick improvement and better course management skills.

On day 2 we played Benemor, a quirky and challenging course, followed by day 3 at Quinta da Ria.  Daily coaching and course management helped the group manage the spectacular courses.  Monte Rei was scheduled for day 5 and what a treat that was. The Championship course is nestled in the hills of Portugal was nothing short of magical. It was a great challenge which everyone enjoyed surrounded by breath-taking scenery. We mixed daily coaching with competitions bringing out the best in us, along with some hearty laughs and friendly banter.

Our evenings were spent soaking in the charm of Tavira. This quaint town, with its rich history and stunning architecture, offered the perfect backdrop for our culinary adventures. From savouring the local cuisine in the old town to exploring the cobblestone streets on our day off, every moment was a discovery of Portugal’s hidden gem

Our hotel; Maria Nova Hotel, was set minutes’ walk from the town with a fabulous roof top bar which we enjoyed after golf and before dinner.

What made the week truly special were the people. Sarah summed it up perfectly when she said, “It was so much more than just improving my game. It was about changing my mind set, dealing with frustration in a positive way, and enjoying the social side of things.” And Kate? She couldn’t have been more right, “A fabulous coach for all levels. You’ve made a game I love even more exciting. Can’t wait for the next time.”

As the coach, it was a truly great week of making new friends, learning golf in a relaxed environment with everyone enjoying the journey together.  This was a group who were predominantly all new clients of David Short Golf and they were fantastic in every way. Thank you for making my first week with DSG a memorable and wonderful week.
