We met up on a glorious Bank Holiday Saturday (not often you get to say that) for our golf and coaching weekend and after intros, straight off to the putting green. I always think this is the the quickest way for all of us to improve our scores quickly. We looked at some chipping too and worked on golf’s holy grail, a flat left wrist at impact! A spot of lunch then out for 9 holes and a chance for me to see everyone on the course. The putting paid off with with our team enjoying the excellent Staverton greens and highlights were Ronnie’s amazing 60ft putt for a two on the long par 3 7th, followed by Lynne’s excellent 20ft putt for a par for their team with Hazel and Connie.
The Bank Holiday hex came in for Sunday with all sorts of forecasts of Biblical storms. However, the day started brightly and our friendly starters Granville and Jenny managed to get us earlier tee times so we could avoid the possible incoming storm. We had an excellent dozen holes before rumbles and odd crackles of lightening told us it was time to come in. Good to see the players implementing some of the ideas we had talked about on the course, which is always a great part of the Golf and Coaching events.
Bank Holiday Monday we looked at the long game, focusing on driving and fairway woods, The key we feel is making sure the set up is strong and our angles are giving us the best chance to launch the ball. We looked at a couple of exercises to help with swing path, to ensure we came into the ball in the right angle.
An earlier tee time meant for some and 18 hole experience which was quite demanding as the weather was warm. There were some excellent shots and everyone enjoyed the sun, even if it was a little tiring. A post round Prosecco or beer we found had amazing restorative powers.
The final morning and we had a classroom review and looked at our long and short game ideas and of course, how to hole more putts. (Rory McIlroy needed to come to this session). Some ideas on the mental game and taking the good stuff on the range on to the course. A few of our group popped on the range to cement the ideas and a final 9 holes before leaving. A great weekend with a super group of students and in wonderful weather.
Look forward to seeing you all again.
All the best
