Having left Portugal in lovely sunshine two weeks previously it was a shock to return to Faro and drive across the Spanish border to El Rampido in pouring rain! However, the sun god returned and apart from one rather cool and windy day we once more experienced a splendid weeks golf in the sunshine.
The El Rampido Resort works very well for a coaching week with its purpose built facilities and has two fine courses that, apart from the back nine on the South course, in the main offer generous fairways which helps when trying to implement a swing change or two. However, with fast subtly sloping greens scoring is not easy, but it was good to see people getting the hang of them by the end of the week. Always testing coming from winter conditions at home to greens, that to be fair were in remarkably good condition for what after all, is winter in Spain too.
While the coaching took priority with this keen group, we played a daily team competition to keep the mind focused leaving our main 4BBB until the Friday. The first day produced a really tight result on the North course with returns of 60 and 61 points being beaten by Steve, Don, Eirik and Alan’s 62.
Day two over the south course again produced a close result with two 69’s being beaten by Ann, Kevin and Don’s 71. However the following two days saw a couple of runaway team wins, Diane, Steve and Eirik with 75 and a remarkable 84 from Freda, Kevin and Patrick on the Thursday!
Following a warm up on the range and short game areas the final days 4BBB again produced a competitive result. Steve and Vicky scoring a sound 38 were beaten into second place with an excellent 40 points from Don and Diane. (Above)
Thank you to the group for their camaraderie and keenness to learn and I’m sure there will be a return visit to this venue next year.
