Easter Golf & Coaching at Staverton Park Report

A very busy Easter weekend, a full compliment of golfers (with many turned away) and four non golfers, all keen to put there game in shape for the new season while enjoying a few days golf, not to mention three sociable evenings! The hotel was very busy with various events but gave us a private dinning facility and looked after us admirably. One couple I have known from when they took up the game approx 25 years ago and at the other end of the scale Damon & David’s first visit. I get a great kick from both.

Friday I showed each one a clip of their swings on the iPad. Seeing is believing and helps to clarify the fact that what we feel and what we do are not necessarily the same! On the positive side it also shows the many good things they do and improvements made from previous visits.

Saturday we tackled the short game and as it was cool outside first thing I started indoors, using the excellent training room facilities Staverton provide. Naturally, people want to get out hitting golf balls but are happy to sit down indoors when outside is not so welcoming. I often find these sessions the most valuable. An opportunity for me to get my message over and for the group to put forward questions which leads to lively discussions. Later we went to the short game practice area for some individual coaching and played 18 holes in the afternoon.

Sunday followed a similar pattern with two main topics of driving and sand bunkers before afternoon play. I am always keen for people to understand how important address positions are and these two topics serve to illustrate it so well.

Monday is a morning for individual clarification. Leaving with a clear mind and positive points to work on. We preceded that with a discussion on course management and reinforcing the importance of routines which I try and establish throughout all G&C breaks.

This is a great time of year to give your golf a spring clean, Barney has two Golf & Coaching events during May Bank Holiday weekends and Aaron several Academy weekends. I have a couple of places available in Portugal on May 17th, we all look forward to giving a little help and enhancing your enjoyment of the game.

  1. Hi David, great to see things still going from strength to strength with DS Golf. Hopefully June and I will see you again at some stage in the next few years, it’s been too long since we last came to see you! Sounds like a great weekend was had by all 🙂

    All the best,

    Paul & June Russell
