After assembling for a breakfast meet up, we set out for our first look at the Dunes course. Picture perfect weather greeted us and with the weather changing for the worst at home, it was good to be in the sun. Three ball team comp was the order of the day and comfortable winners were Brenda, Gerry and Arnie with 44 points. Next day we had a slightly later start, so time for a spot of fine tuning on their amazing range. We had a men v ladies comp and for the first time that I can remember on a DSG trip the men actually won! We went offsite to Katerina’s a local restaurant which was excellent.
Tuesday saw our first visit to the spectacular Bay course. As you make your way into the clubhouse for the first time and stand on their balcony the view is as good as any in the world. The staff as everywhere on the resort bent over backwards to make us welcome and tricky times felt safe. We opted for a pairs event and inspired by the surroundings everyone had a great day. There were some fast starts by DSG new comers Andrew and Junaid with 20 points for the opening 9s. Andrew and Jennie went on to record 42 points, however star of the show was Vanessa who put on a putting and driving masterclass and had 40 points on her own. Partner Gerry popped in some extra points and their 44 points won the day. We rounded off an excellent day with an equally excellent dinner at Elia restaurant on the bay in Gialova.
Wednesday was used up in a variety of sun bathing, massages, book reading on and around this magnificent resort where relaxing is a very easy art form to get in to.
Our second game at the Bay was an eventful one with everyone contributing to the day of excellent golf. Teams of four was the order of the day and with two to count on each hole, scoring was impressive. Brenda, Jennie, Gerry and Andrew rattled up an impressive 91 points with an eye watering 51 points on the back nine. However, after their equally superb 50 points going out Vanessa, Mohini, Arnie and Junaid cruised home in 96 points surely a DSG record haul for a days play! Arnie was in particularly fine form with north of 40 points himself, featuring plenty of pars and one particularly cheeky birdie from a fortuitous bounce. A great day rounded off with a visit to Aetos restaurant on the harbour in the charming village of Pylos.
Last day at the Dunes course and another beautiful one. Today’s victors Mohini, Jennie, Arnie and Andrew rattled up 92 points with everybody contributing well. The big talking point of our final day’s golf was the great hole in one by Vanessa, in fact her second in 3 months!! The 5th at the Dunes was the hole and we celebrated in style with champagne in the evening, thank you Vanessa. A fitting way to sign off on a fabulous week and really looking forward to returning in 2021.
All the best
