Blog – Staverton Park Golf and Coaching – April 19 – May 2nd 2016

We had an excellent group of 12 players for this weekends Golf and Coaching at Staverton Park, Daventry, with a very neat breakdown of 6 ladies and 6 men.  A nice mixture of returnee’s and new players to the David Short fold!

We started the first session talking about how important warm up is and how useful it is not only for loosening up our golf muscles but in terms of helping with our general technique on non golfing days.  We then worked on our swings prior to nine holes for me to have my first viewing of the team on the course.

In fact time o160429_DSG_Stav_1n the course is just something in my regular coaching job I have precious little of and I find it so useful on golf and coaching events to view players tendencies.  Over the three visits to the course over the weekend we saw and discussed not only alignment, but short game strategy and general club selection.

Saturday and Sunday we looked at further swing techniques and everyon160429_DSG_Stav_2e’s favourite short game shot… bunkers!

On the final game we had a light hearted “gender” competition, seeing which combination of the sexes was the most efficient between an all female, all male and a mixed team. Well in golf as perhaps in life the mixed team was the best!

We finished off on 160429_DSG_Stav_3Monday with a review of all aspects and some refreshers on the chipping and pitching.

Although we had some cooler temperatures, we missed most of the rain on this Bank Holiday weekend, so a good time was had by all and I must say some excellent banter on and off the course.

All the best
Barney
