Blog – Staverton Park Golf Academy 13 – 15 May 2016

We had eight keen students for our first golf Academy of the season and in the main we were blessed with great weather throughout the weekend.  We began on Friday with a clinic and some ideas on using swing building exercises for practice and pre shot routines that help to embed the feel of the movement.  After lunch we played 9 holes and a chance for me to see everyone on the course, the true test!

Saturday morning we looked at the things I had seen on the course and went over that with each player.  After that we focussed on the short game, starting with chipping and then on to pitching and putting.  We played after lunch and even though they worked really hard some wanted to go on and complete the eighteen holes, so needless to say everyone had an early night.

DSG_Blog_post_04_16_1On Sunday we had a classroom review session in the morning, which David and I find really useful and we always have some thought provoking questions.  After coffee we worked on our favourite shot.. bunkers and looked at how good technique will pop you out with confidence.

We had a pairs match with Rita andDSG_Blog_post_04_16_2 Roberta taking on Robin and Michael.  A keenly contested game which was decided by a putt by Roberta on the last hole, using her new cross handed grip which we talked about on Saturday.

A great weekend all round and I am looking forward to hearing everyone’s progress over the summer.

All the best

  1. My first time at a David Short golf clinic and I really enjoyed it. Barney’ was dedicated and patient and really gave me much to think about. There were eight of us on the trip and it was a good number. The practice sessions were invaluable, I never practice for that amount of time, but also it was constructive. We played nine holes in the afternoons, 18 holes available if you wanted to, under Barney’s watchful eye and it was good to get feedback on that too! I am definitely approaching my game set up differently. Thank you very much for a great weekend, next time I will try one of the events abroad.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this booster for your game.

  2. A most enjoyable weekend despite the weather flipping between semi-arctic and giving me sunburn! I have only one comment; at the introductory session I think it would have been useful to ask each participant why they had booked on the course and what, in particular, they wanted to learn. This would have allowed more focussed coaching. Notwithstanding, I now know what to do to improve my game – it’s just a question of practice.

  3. Great weekend.,Barney’s instruction & commitment to improving our various golf games was excellent (even if we couldn’t always do it!!)Weather was the only disappointment ,,apart from Saturday pm it was cold!
Hopefully will make another one this year in the sunshine
