A thought or two to help when the better weather arrives….
It’s been a long wet winter, if you can’t get out on the golf course, or like me don’t wish to be on the driving range in bleak conditions and are not able to get away to the sun, spend a little time on your grip stance and posture. You don’t have to be outdoors to get that right. The better it is, on the course the less you have to think about it, the easier it is to make good rhythmic swings. And, that applies equally, probably more so, to the short game.
There are thousands of articles, books, videos, youtube clips on all aspects to remind you of theses fundamentals, but do people practice them well?……I don’t think so! Use a mirror to check your grip and posture. Put clubs or guide sticks down for alignment and ball position. Pay great attention to width of stance, weight distribution ( especially with short game) and if you want to know what a good putting stance and stroke feels like, place the top of your head against the wall, the putter toe on the skirting board and make a few (preferably thousand) putting strokes!
If you can picture your shot, walk into your (correct) address position smoothly, un rushed, swing, pitch, or chip, away without delay, you will find far greater rhythm and consistency.. Remember, each department of the game has quite a different position, it wants to become as automatic as possible……. wrong and comfortable is not going to work!! It really is worth a few minutes each day.
