With Pilates and posture having become such a popular movement practice, it felt like the perfect time to incorporate it into the David Short Golf schedule—and where better to initiate this than at the fantastic Gloria Golf Resort in Belek, Turkey?
The facilities at Gloria Verde and the wider Gloria Golf Resort were ideally placed to accommodate this new event. Two and a half championship courses and world-class practice facilities—a TrackMan double-tier range, private grass range, and multiple short game areas—meant our group had everything we needed to improve, compete, and enjoy ourselves.
Jo and I arrived a day early to get everything organised, including preparing the Pilates and posture space and making last-minute arrangements for the week to come. Since we were being joined by 20 guests, we had also recruited the services of PGA Advanced Coach David Clare to help with the long game coaching throughout the week, so that everyone could receive plenty of one-to-one attention.
Each day started and ended with Pilates sessions with Jo, targeting posture, flexibility, and core strength—key attributes for any golfer looking to stay injury-free and consistent. Perfectly rounded off with on-course golf and tuition, it was an intensive but phenomenally rewarding week. Most impressive to me was how fresh and rejuvenated everyone felt—even after long days of golf. There were no aching bodies the next morning, just golfers eager to get back out on the course.
In spite of Turkey’s usually loyal blue skies taking a short vacation, we took full advantage. On one of the rainy days, we added in bonus mindset and Pilates/Posture sessions, giving everyone a chance to replenish body and mind. Luckily, the sun came out again for some beautiful days of golf in the blue skies.
The Gloria Resort, as always, excelled itself. From the gourmet meals to the all-inclusive service—which stretches to the golf clubhouse (and the buggy bar!), hotel bars, beach points and restaurants—it truly is a luxurious getaway for every guest.
Our rest day was the perfect chance to unwind in the gorgeous Thalasso Spa, and some of the party even found time for a little local shopping.
We played both the Old and the New Courses during the week, with a further 9 holes on the Verde. The courses wind through forests of pine and open up onto lakes with a backdrop of snow-capped mountains—breathtakingly beautiful.
There were some excellent team scores: 97, 94, 90, and plenty in the 80s. Richard Kennett got an excellent 39 points on the Old Course, and Debbie stormed in with 42 points off a 10 handicap from the blue tees. A number of our golfers played to or under their handicaps, showing just how successful the combination of coaching and Pilates had been.
We also had a few near hole-in-ones—Janet hit the flag, and Amy’s ball was literally sitting on the lip of the cup. So close!
All in all, it was a great week and a wonderful addition to the David Short Golf calendar. Pilates and Posture is definitely here to stay
