Our Golf New Year trip started off on one of my long standing favourites on the Algarve, the wonderful Old Course. We were greeted by blue skies a pleasant 70 degrees, and a lovely warm welcome from the staff there. There was some good golf all round , especially from Mark considering he had to play with hired clubs and shoes as the airline has mislaid his! Fortunately they arrived in time for golf the next day, although the Old course set accrued several birdies and plenty of pars so Mark was quite wistful when he gave them back.
Day two saw us at the Millennium golf course, with their greens being in excellent shape. We opted for 2 players scoring per hole in a team of 4, and once again blessed with superb weather. The quartet of Mark, Garry, Mick and Viv carried the day with an excellent 83 points. Hole of the day was definitely from Lisbeth, who had a 2 net zero for 5 points! The day put us in good heart for the New Year’s Eve celebrations in the evening at the fun Marisco restaurant in the Marina at Vilamoura. It was a great evening with some good food, an excellent musician all the way from Paris and some amazing dancing from the DSG contingent, who strutted their stuff with great energy!
New Years Day at Quinta Do Logo South Course had to be the best way to begin 2017 I know. Temperature in the 70’s ( as remarkably was my score!) greens in magnificent shape and the course to our selves, perfect !We had a pairs event, and Mark continued his hot form in company of DSG regular John Ellis, and they took the honours in the first competition of the year. An understandably lower key evening was had by all, and everyone in bed well before midnight this time!
Fortunately the only suspect weather day of our week coincided with our day off. It was really windy, however half a dozen of our group decided to revisit the Old course, so full marks to them. The rest of us fell easily into relaxing mode, and we had a great dinner that night at the Thai restaurant, one of David’s and mine favourites.
Our fourth round took us to the excellent Laranjal, which was in terrific condition. They must have the most undulating greens in the Algarve, and as they had a competition the day before, decidedly quick. This was probably the warmest day of the week, and we went for a pairs event with the dynamic duo of Sandy and Viv mastering the Laranjal examination.
Last day at Pinhal and another fine one, and so far I really like 2017 ! It is an interesting lay out through the pine trees, and prety sure we all hit one over the course of our day. The winners today were Fiesal and Mark, so we celebrated that and a great week on the lovely veranda in their spacious clubhouse. Back to the Vile Gale for some fun prizes and dinner at the excellent Italian Tuttapana, with the option of a sushi starter which interestingly I always opt for!
A terrific week filled with good weather, golf and a nice mix of DSG regulars and new clientele.
Hope to see you on a fairway soon.
All the best
