Having ventured to China and Vietnam on past tours to Asia, we took our first Golf Tour to Thailand in February 2013. A three centre tour commencing in Hua Hin where we sampled excellent golf, delightful caddies and facilities that we soon came to realise is the norm in “the land of smiles”. Of course we don’t travel this far for golf alone and a day excursion to the Bridge over the river Kwai proved an interesting and moving experience. While international menus were available in the hotels for those who prefer, several barmy nights were spent sampling the excellent local cuisine in street markets and at the beach restaurants.
Our middle week took us inland to Chang Mai in the north central area. This is one of the main cultural, areas taking us to temples and the highest peak of Thailand, quite fascinating, as it is covered with dense forest and foliage that you don’t expect at 3500 metres. You will see from the photographs our visit to the protected tigers, surely the most beautiful of cats. However the highlight of my trip was to the elephant centre and watching fascinated as they painted pictures, yes, painted with brush held in trunk, one of which we are now proud owners, the evidence is here to see!
Finally, the tour took us to the holiday area of Phuket. A week spent playing some spectacular golf, visiting the infamous night life of Patong and a stunning day sailing through the hundreds of Islands, snorkelling from the boat and even a swim from the beach made famous in the Bond movie!
February 2014 will take us back to Thailand for one week, with further weeks in Cambodia and Malaysia. Please see Escorted Golf Tours for details.
