Always interesting when arriving in the dark to a venue, to wake the next morning and see it in the light. The favourable impression of the first evening went up a notch when you could admire the view over the golf course and sea. Rooms really well appointed and pleasant eager to help staff, so our group very happy and comfortable.
We went to the range and worked on warm-up fundamentals and swing building techniques. Looked at pitching today and worked on distance control. We had bonus 9 holes in the afternoon which was fun and everyone enjoyed trying out some new ideas and playing in shirt sleeves!
A super morning in the sun, fine tuning our putting skills didn’t prepare us for a squally afternoon on the course. A particularly bracing band of wind and rains came in for an hour or so sending four of our intrepid golfers back to the clubhouse to enjoy the view (who doesn’t like to watch other golfers trudge through the rain!) and a small drop of vino. The rest of the group toughed it out and the back nine of Buenavista is well worth the visit.
The weather perked up as did everyone’s golf. Some stand out performances from Abi and Debbie and all round splendid golf from the rest of our team. Everyone has worked hard at their golf and beginning to see some of the improvements taking shape.
We were certainly looking forward to this day off to explore, sleep or in some cases hit some more balls.
We worked on some pitching and bunker shots in the morning and then a few looseners before setting out on the links. There was some great golf with Bryan in particularly good form with a super eagle and several birdies. Steve Also rounded some really impressive birdies gross and net and had his own personal best round, which is great on such a challenging course.
Last day and we had a short review session on the range and then on to the course. Probably the best weather day and we had a competition with the best one from four to count. Well to say there was good golf all round was an understatement. With the quartets of Abi, Flavia, Bryan and Nigel tying with Ali, Debbie, Steve and Doug on 49 Points! Stand out shots were Ali and Steve’s drives onto the tough 8th. Debbie’s amazing 150yard eagle on the par 5 13th (her first ever). Bryan and Doug’s steady play and Abby amassing 40points on her own. Tom continuing his daily improvement at which rate if he stayed another week he would probably be off scratch.
A great week all round, a good new venue for DSG and terrific to see some of our returnees, John in fact first going to see David over 25 years ago and our brilliant new members of Flavia, Debbie and Bob.
We had a final evening in the hotels lovely Salazar restaurant, where we had an excellent meal and some nice wine too! I really enjoyed the course and the people at both the hotel and golf course who made my job so much easier. I really appreciated their thoughtfulness and looking forward to returning here in 2018.
All the best,
