A splendid day to start our stay in Stresa and a day out on Lake Maggiore and a visit to the impressive Pallazo Borromeo on Isola Bella island. The historic rooms filled with paintings and tapestries (some from England) were fascinating. You then leave the residence through six grottos covered with pebbles, tofa rock and marble. A nice stroll around the Italian baroque garden set us up for a super lunch over looking the lake. Cocktails in Stresa in the evening rounded off a very pleasing day.
We had two most enjoyable games at Bogogno Golf Course and the impressive Castel Conturbia Golf Course which has hosted several Italian Opens. In between we visited the charming Fontechiara winery where our wonderful host talked us through their range of Artisan wines. Fortunately after the talk came the tasting and had the full range of red, white and rose to enjoy along with some top class nibbles. We all took samples home with us although whether any made it back to the plane for the return journey was unlikely!
The highlight of our day off (apart from an informative bus / train around the town) was our sunset speed boat trip around the lake complete with champagne. It took us to the wonderful Casabella Restaurant on the Isola Pescatori. In honour of fish island we had an amazing fish cooked in salt, very Italian.
We finished the tour with two wonderful days of golf in glorious weather and two more superb meals in Stresa.
A truly wonderful week and definitely enjoyed the Italian vibe on and off the course. I look forward to returning to this super country, so Arrivederci!
