Day One – Our first day on the range and we are greeted by Sicilian Sun and a good start to our golf week. This morning we covered the basics and some ideas on enhancing the players techniques and good practice routines on the course. The afternoon we looked at putting and all that entails! We finished off with bunker, pitching and chipping to set ourselves up for the course tomorrow.
Day two – We reviewed yesterday, then worked on hybrid and driving techniques/ The beauty of David Short weeks is that you get to try things out immediately on the course. We headed out for our first look at the links, which was excellent and provided us all with a solid challenge. Quite a few undulations on the fairways and some impressive bunkers, which during the days play our group came out of impressively!
Day three – After tackling how to play slopes and short game review it was off our first visit to the Parkland course. We all found it really interesting and a big contrast to the Links, so to have this choice on a resort is really excellent. The 9th and 18th holes both featured tricky approaches to end your 9s and the dog leg 12th, par 5 had to be seen to be believed! We had an informal team competition and the trio of Fred, Naomi and Elaine triumphed with 41 points. Highlights aside from Fred’s Jordan Spieth like steadiness was a net 1 for Elaine and a birdie for Naomi on the 15th which equaled a net zero, which bags you 5 pints!!
Day four – we had a really interesting visit to the Valle dell’Acate wine making company in the beautiful Ragusa province. Incredibly the Jacano family have run the estate for over seven generations. After a tour we got to taste five wines (the good news was that we didn’t have to spit any out!) and followed by an excellent lunch and mind blowing shot of grappe to finish. The afternoon clearly included some snoozing and sun worshipping.
Day five – Second round on the links and the trio of Elliot, Sue and Fred came good today with an excellent back 9, steady Sue was the glue that held the team together. A keen wind kept play interesting and avoiding some of the cavernous bunkers proved a challenge! Some great shots by everyone and another terrific day weather and food wise.
Day six – second round on the parkland course, after our review of the week and some individual instruction going over the main areas for each players improvement, we headed out. We were all convinced that we knew how to handle it as we had played it before! The weather again was superb and temps in the mid 70s made for very pleasant golfing especially with a cooling breeze. Sue, Naomi and Elliot came good with 41 points and several highlights featuring some solid hitting by Elliot, some amazing putting by Sue, including a 60 footer and steady play from Naomi. Jane made a super pitch and putt on the 1st, Elaine continued her improved striking and steady Fred was well steady and their 40 point haul just came up short.
I think everyone came away with some useful pointers to work on, on their game and from my point of view a terrific group to work with. Thanks for a great week and I look forward to meeting up again.
All the best
