I moved a short distance down the road from the “Golden Triangle” to Tavira for my final overseas week of the spring season. As always the Robinson Club’s consistent standards of service a cuisine were hard to fault. The two courses of Quinta da Ria and Cima were in fine condition and the practice facilities presented and organised to a tee (urgh!)
Following our afternoons short game session on Sunday we watched the final days play of the Spanish Open from PGA Catalunya. A great win from the ever popular Miguel Angel Jimenez, for me, having played there in March, made very special as this long and very hilly course should have lent itself to a younger, longer hitter. Hope for us all!!
The week took its usual format of coaching in the mornings and 18 holes in the afternoon. Despite my constant pleading of not hitting to many balls, taking a rest day and preaching less is more, Robin our 82 year old 18 handicapper, played every day (including the day off) hit more balls than most on the range, proving there are always exceptions to the rules. He earned our respect – apart from the ladies, Rae and Liz who hit the least balls and won the 4 bbb end of week competition from guess who? in second place, along with his partner Roland.
