La Quinta, Marbella Golf & Coaching Week 14 – 21 March 2015

It has been good to be back at La Quinta for the first time in 6 years. The Academy facilities are excellent and unfortunately their undercover section was very welcome towards the end of the week. Typical that the Costa del Sol should decide to give us inclement weather on our return having had a long spell of sunshine. My fifteen keen to improve golfers kept Manola, our ball supplier at the range and short game area, very much occupied, however, he did a stirling job with a smile on his face in what at times, were not the easiest conditions and probably born out by the photo opportunity I missed – a duck happily paddling about in one of the practice bunkers!

The golf course is in very good shape and a few alterations made to the C nine are a good improvement. At present the B nine is undergoing renovation work and should enhance the 27 hole course, already one of the better layouts of the newer batch of courses on the Costa del Sol.

We resided in the Melia Marbella Banus hotel, a 10 minute transfer from the golf and similar stroll time along the seafront to the famous Puerto Banus marina. I can safely say that as a hotel and venue it was very well received by all.

I am not sure I can comment on one particular area of the coaching on this occasion. The handicaps were reasonably evenly spread from 5 to 32 and it was gratifying to see many long time clients returning and able to be moved on with their game without having to rebuild. Tiredness from a morning on the range often began to show and there were a few sore hands, but in general there were reports of good spells of golf from these players benefiting from a good grounding previously.

Having written this report I am now looking forward to being transferred a few miles further down the coast towards Gibraltar to the San Roque Suites. A weeks golf in the Premiere area of the region and a forecast promising the usual sun will return!

Best regards
David
