• Overview

With all of our events, we do our utmost to ensure that we have good quality accommodation an exciting and interesting golf courses to play. But we also put a huge emphasis on the social side of the tour and aim to ensure that everyone feels ‘part of the family’. We dine, drink, smile and laugh together and collectively enjoy what should be a fine social week of golf.

    The Hilton Vilamoura Hotel

Just 25 minutes from Faro Airport and situated within five acres of picturesque landscaped gardens, the Hilton Vilamoura Hotel is a perfect location for the New Year tour.  Within the town and yet away from the hubbub.  The hotel rooms are modern and well equipped and enjoy views of the pools and gardens below.  Indeed, there are six large pools with cascading waterfalls; hence if the weather allows we can enjoy a relaxing swim during our stay.  The hotel is ideally located for the golf courses that we are playing.  The hotel is also home to the 7 Seven Spa, which features a range of luxurious treatments to sample and offers a haven way from the stresses of everyday life.  There are a range of dining options as well.  The Aquarela Restaurant features a delicious Mediterranean barbeque.  We can also try the Sports Bar or Club H2O, with sumptuous cocktails, Alfresco Dining and lively Sunset Lounge Parties. Cilantro is the hotel’s seasonal Italian restaurant and offers inspiring a la carte dining.  With the quality of the accommodation, cuisine and facilities, we have the ideal retreat for the New Year week.

    Quinta da Ombria Golf Club

The Ombria Resort offers a landmark golf experience, an 18-hole, Par 70 signature course where nature has been fully integrated into the play experience to provide a diverse challenge and setting. This signature course was designed by Jorge Santana da Silva, who followed a sustainable vision to complement and enhance the natural landscape. Weaving around ancient rivers and trees that have stood for generations, it has achieved the standards of golf’s most prestigious ecolabel certifications and created a naturally diverse setting for a truly memorable round of golf.

Dom Pedro Golf Club – Victoria Course

At the time of creation, the Victoria course was hailed as the most ambitious golf project Portugal had ever witnessed.  Designed by true golfing legend, Arnold Palmer, there is absolutely no doubt that it has lived up to that lofty billing.  Covering some 90 hectares, the venue encompasses one of the most complete golf complexes in Europe and features an exceptional driving range and a putting green of some 2,500 m2.  All of this has made it the obvious venue of choice for many of the top international tournaments to visit Portugal in recent times. Indeed, it has served as the host venue to the Portugal Masters on every occasion since 2007, while the World Cup Championship was staged here in 2005.  The Victoria course quickly became one of the best golf courses in Portugal, with a layout that presents a challenge even for the most seasoned players.

    San Lorenzo Golf Club

The San Lorenzo golf course is also located in the Quinta do Lago nature reserve and enjoys a reputation for the excellent condition of its fairways and its attractive views around a lake formed by the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. It was for many years ranked as the second-best course to play in Europe.  The outward first five holes are played through the pine tree forest. Water and good hole layouts provide the hazards that play a big part in having to select the right club and to hit with care. The 18th is a tricky Par-4 mainly involving a lake that is just waiting for the inaccurate shot.

Dom Pedro Golf Club – Old Course

Situated in the heart of Vilamoura this Frank Pennink Old Course, designed parkland style layout is one of the oldest in the region and renowned all over the golfing world.  Often described as the Grande Dame of the Algarve courses, it meanders throughout impressive pine trees, the principal hazard, over gently undulating natural terrain. Although it opened in 1969, the course was completely renovated and modernised 27 years later although no major changes were made to the magnificent layout. This is one of the courses in Portugal that will always stay in the memory of visiting golfers.

Dom Pedro Golf Club – Pinhal Course

The second golf course to call Vilamoura home, the Pinhal course was opened for play in 1976 and owes its personality to both the original designer Frank Pennink, who also turned his hand to the Old Course nearby, and Robert Trent Jones Sr., who made a number of significant refinements in 1985.  Traversing undulating parkland, many fairways are lined by pine trees. However, perhaps an even more significant challenge is presented by the Umbrella and Atlantic pines which present themselves on fairways and at times on the approach into greens. Length has recently been added on a number of holes, which ensure the test originally envisioned by Pennink is maintained. At a substantial 6,353 metres from the white tee markers, and with a par of 72, the Pinhal course is certainly no pushover, although you will be pleased to learn that the ponds and stream which come into play on five holes should not, for the most part, present a serious threat.
