With regards to the golf, we will play all three of the superb Quinta do Lago courses, Laranjal, South and North. And to compliment the trio, the Dom Pedro Old Course and the Vale do Lobo – Royal Course. Five magnificent golf courses and an appropriate way to finally restart our programme in Portugal.
With all of our events, we do our utmost to ensure that we have good quality accommodation an exciting and interesting golf courses to play. But we also put a huge emphasis on the social side of the tour and aim to ensure that everyone feels ‘part of the family’. We dine, drink, smile and laugh together and collectively enjoy what should be a fine social week of golf.
THE TIVOLI MARINA HOTEL, VILAMOURA
With the famous Marina on one side and its own beach on the other, excellent rooms and facilities, the Tivoli Marina Hotel provides the perfect base for the Vilamoura Golf Tour. The restaurants, bars and shops of the Marina are a stroll away, and the hotel itself provides a wonderful range of leisure facilities, including the Angsana Spa, which is located in the gardens of the hotel. The hotel also hosts a number of restaurants and bars, which are all worthy alternatives to dining out in the evenings.
Dom Pedro Golf Club – Old Course
Situated in the heart of Vilamoura the Old Course at Dom Pedro Golf Course designed by Frank Pennink in a parkland style layout is one of the oldest in the region and renowned all over the golfing world. Often described as the Grande Dame of the Algarve courses, it meanders throughout impressive pine trees, the principal hazard, over gently undulating natural terrain. Although it opened in 1969, the course was completely renovated and modernised 27 years later although no major changes were made to the magnificent layout. This is one of the courses in Portugal that will always stay in the memory of visiting golfers.
Quinta da Lago – Laranjal Course
The Quinta do Lago’s Laranjal course is one of the finest courses in the Algarve and a favourite with clients in recent years. The course, which was originally an orange grove, is a sanctuary for fine golf. The narrow fairways and the well defined greens require concentration and accuracy to navigate what is a testing course laid out on a rolling and distinctive terrain. It is a par 72, 6,480 metres long, with five par 5s, eight par 4s and five par 3s, all set amongst umbrella pines, cork-oaks and orange trees, with a natural water course and five beautiful lakes.
Quinta Do Lago Golf Club – South Course
Opened in 1974, Quinta do Lago South has hosted the ‘Portuguese Open Championship’ eight times, together with many other important professional and amateur championships. The course is set in a natural setting surrounded by umbrella pines, lakes and wild vegetation, with the stunning Ria Formosa nature reserve as the backdrop. Each hole has generous landing areas off the tees and well-defined routes through the woodland and pine setting.
Quinta da Lago – North Course
The North Course was totally redesigned in 2014, by the renowned architect Beau Welling, in conjunction with former European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley. The new layout has been built to the highest specifications, with an investment of €9million. All the greens, tees, bunkers, irrigation and drainage systems and buggy paths have been re-built using innovative technology. Four sets of tees have been introduced on each hole to accommodate players of all levels. Golfers are challenged by a combination of undulating greens, well-positioned bunkers and water hazards. A low-cut Bermuda grass approach has been introduced around greens to create recovery shot options, therefore encouraging all levels of play. Through the introduction of seasonal rough grass and the planting of specimen trees, the aesthetics and environmental impact of the par-72 course has significantly improved.
Vale do Lobo Golf Club – Royal Course
The 18-hole championship Vale do Lobo Royal golf course, the sister course to the Ocean course, has combined several existing holes from the original Vale do Lobo course and introduced some special interesting new holes. The layout of the course is skilfully planned with a mixture of challenges slowly building up to a fine challenge on the 18th. The famous Par 3 7th hole from the old days is now the spectacular 16th on the new course. The closing 18th is a tricky hole on which to finish, with its narrow fairway and a deceptive green.
