We want to create memories that will last a lifetime. And Vietnam is the perfect destination to do just that.

We will visit the underground villages to better understand the tunnels’ history, life in the tunnels and the Vietnamese’s resilience during the combats. Returning to Saigon in the afternoon, we will then embark on a city tour to admire Saigon’s historic landmarks including the Notre Dame Cathedral, a stunningly massive red-brick edifice with twin spires, a clear reminder that the French once ruled this city; the Central Post Office influenced by Renaissance architecture; and the former Presidential Palace, headquarters of the Saigon Government during the American war. If time permits, we will also visit the Ben Thanh Market before being driven back to the hotel.

We bring the Da Nang leg of the tour to a close and fly north to Hanoi.  Our hotel for our final leg of the tour is the 5-star boutique style, Hotel de l’opera – Mgallery.  The MGallery Collection property is just a 5-minute walk from Hanoi Opera House and located in Hanoi city centre. The bedrooms are excellent, as are the hotel facilities and indeed the cuisine is of the highest order too, with guests enjoying international dishes at the Café Lautrec restaurant and the traditional Vietnamese and French food at the Satine. Colonial styling and excellent location are the highlights of this Hanoi city resort.

In the afternoon, we will embark on a half-day tour of the city.  With ochre-coloured colonial buildings, tree-lined boulevards and scenic lakes, Hanoi is full of charm. We will start the tour at the historic Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, an imposing monument lavishly built using marble and granite, and where the preserved body of ‘Uncle Ho’ resides.  Behind the Mausoleum, we will see Ho Chi Minh’s house.  The simple house where Ho Chi Minh lived and worked is made of wood and enjoyed a tranquil setting, with a view of a lotus pond.  Ho Chi Minh’s belongings are on display and you can walk up the steps of his house to see his bedroom.  A short walk from the mausoleum is the One Pillar Pagoda, resting on a single stone pillar emerging from the water, it is shaped like a lotus on its stalk.  Inside is a statue of the Goddess of Mercy with its legendary ‘thousand arms and thousand eyes’.  We will then wind our way to the Temple of Literature, the first University for the sons of mandarins, for an overview about Hanoi culture and ancient Vietnamese architecture.

Wednesday 25th November           Van Tri Golf Club

    ~ Breakfast

~ 18 holes Van Tri Golf Club

Our first Hanoi golfing experience takes us to the Van Tri Golf Club, which is conveniently located 30 minutes from Hanoi city centre and was North Vietnam’s first exclusively private golf estate. The Peter Rousseau designed course presents traditional values and a robust approach that is forever exciting and challenging to play; one that will undoubtedly stand the test of time. Van Tri is visually stunning as the right balance of blending colours, textures, heights, and elements of stone, water, sand, grass, and trees to provide an excellent variety that defines every individual hole.  A mix of holes provide for multiple lines of attack, forced carries, good risk reward for long hitters, and at the same time generous fairways and lay-up areas. The golf course shaping, and conditioning are without a doubt the best in North Vietnam. Full Paspalum playing surfaces ensure proper fairway lies and top putting conditions.

Thursday 26th November          Full Day Best of Hanoi Tour

    ~ Breakfast

~ Private full day Best of Hanoi with lunch

A further day to embrace the culture and history of Vietnam.  We will be driven 30 minutes out of the downtown City to the beautiful Museum of Ethnology, where we will enhance our understanding of Vietnam’s diverse culture. From simple daily use objects such as fishing instruments to priced items such as jewellery, the Museum is dedicated to display valuable information about the cultural heritages of the diverse communities.  If time allows, we will also visit the Hoa Lo prison (the ‘Hanoi Hilton’) and learn about the decades preceding its use as a place for holding American POWs.  It was used by the French to imprison Vietnamese patriots. We also visit the Hoan Kiem Lake, located in the very centre of the city and also known as Lake of the Restored Sword from the legend that surrounds it.  Hoan Kiem Lake was already considered the most beautiful lake in Hanoi when Ngoc Son Temple was built on an island.  The temple was called Ngoc Son Pagoda and was renamed Ngoc Son Temple since temples were dedicated to the scholar Van Suong who was considered to be one of the brightest stars in Vietnam’s literary and intellectual circles and the National hero Tran Hung Dao who defeated the Mongols in the 13th century.  Ngoc Son Temple is reached via wooden The Huc (Where rays of morning sunshine touch) Bridge, which was constructed in 1885.  We will then enjoy a walking tour through the old quarter to enjoy the bustling local life.  This densely populated corner of the city was once a centre of commerce where goods were sold under the street name of a particular guild. Still a thriving community of sellers today, we will see street names such as Sugar Street, Tin Street and Paper Street. Ancient homes and temples are interspersed with stores in this souvenir hunter’s paradise!
