Our location for the tour is the Village Wirral Hotel in Bromborough, which is ideally located to travel to the three courses.
The golf programme features three quite distinct courses. Bromborough Golf Club is a traditional tree-lined parkland course, Wallasey is a classic links course and Heswall a fine Championship parkland course bordering the River Dee. I hope that you can join me as we explore another region of the UK and one that is renowned for quality golf.
The Village Wirral Hotel
The Village Wirral Hotel is the ideal spot from which to discover the top golf courses on the Wirral Peninsular. With spacious rooms, flat screen TVs, comfortable beds, complimented by a professional service and a wide range of leisure facilities for us to enjoy during our stay, the hotel provides the ideal accommodation base for the tour. The Hotel also features The Village Pub and Grill, a bar, and a fully equipped state-of-the-art gym and squash court. For an additional fee, guests can also use the Village Gym and the 25m heated swimming pool.
Bromborough Golf Club
Bromborough Golf Club is located in a mature part of the Leverhulme Estate, in the heart of the Wirral Peninsula. For over 100 years golfers have been tackling the distinctive 18 holes that play between 6,300 and 6,600 yards depending on the tees used. Its quality can be evidenced by its selection to host the English Amateur Matchplay Championship in 2005, English Men’s Seniors Championship in 2003 the Cheshire Matchplay in 2010, Cheshire Strokeplay Championship in 2017 and Cheshire Seniors Strokeplay Championship in 2018. The Club is also proud to be the home of European Tour star, Paul Waring, winner of the Nordea Masters in 2018.
Wallasey Golf Club
Wallasey Golf Club has earned itself a fabulous reputation since it was first founded more than a hundred years ago in 1891. A challenging, exciting and diverse course that is not for the faint hearted, the course provides a tough test of golf for even the most experienced of golfers. The course begins with the raised greens and elevated tees and requires long, powerful drives down the fairways in order to succeed. Measuring at 5,943 metres from the back tees, it is certainly a lengthy challenge and should not be underestimated, especially given the often strong winds which add to the difficulties faced on the course. As is true with most seaside links courses, due to the vast open areas and sea breezes which blow in, we are likely to feel that we have played and walked a course twice as long as it actually is at Wallasey! The greens are in good condition as one would expect from a Club which has hosted Regional Qualifying for The Open Championship when it returned to The Royal Liverpool Golf Club in 2006. They remain quick and true to play even following periods of bad weather, thanks largely due to the natural sandiness of the terrain with its close proximity to the beach. Please do not be deterred by the challenge; it is a classic links challenge and one that I am sure we will thoroughly enjoy.
Heswall Golf Club
Heswall Golf Club is home to an outstanding, championship course. It was the chosen venue of the Junior Open in 2006, won by none other than Patrick Reed. The Club has been selected to host the Northern Junior Open Tournament several times, notably won by Matthew Fitzpatrick in 2012 prior to him turning professional. The course has also hosted amateur International matches and several County Championships. Heswall Golf Club offers an undisturbed sanctuary of golf where Members, guests and visitors can escape the hectic pace of everyday life. In addition to the spectacular course, Heswall Golf Club offers extensive, state of the art practice facilities including a full driving range, two USGA standard 1,000 sqm chipping and putting greens, and a practice bunker area. The Club also offers a prestigious setting with unrivalled panoramic views across the Dee Estuary, complimented by craft beers and a vibrant and tasty catering menu.
