The Hotel Vik Gran Costa del Sol, La Cala de Mijas (4 Star)
The 4 star Hotel Vik Gran enjoys a tranquil location in Cala de Mijas and just footsteps from Butibamba beach and the Mediterranean Sea. All of the rooms in the hotel have a private balcony with lateral sea views. The hotel has decent facilities and is ideally located for the five golf clubs.
The Golf Courses
La Cala Golf Club – America Course
Campo America, formerly the North Course, measures 6,009 metres and is a par 72, with five par 5s. The hilly topography of the course makes for a spectacular playing experience the course requires accurate and well judged shot-making as nearly three quarters of the greens are perched or slightly elevated.
La Cala Golf Club – Europa Course
The Campo Europa course was opened in March 2005. The fairways are generous from the tees and the greens are slightly larger than on the other two courses. The major difference is that Campo Europa runs beside the Ojen River, whereas the other two courses are in the hills. The Ojen River plays a part in eight holes, cutting across three fairways.
El Chaparral Golf Club
Since it reopened, El Chaparral Golf Club has become one of the most attractive golf clubs on the Costa del Sol, the result of the determination and efforts of Antonio Rubio’s family business to position El Chaparral Golf Club as one of the preferred golf courses on the Costa del Sol. With an original design by Pepe Gancedo, this is the only golf course on the Costa del Sol with six par 3’s, six par 4’s and six par 5’s. With a total length of 6,000 metres, it offers a wide variety of holes and is quite a challenging course, requiring high levels of accuracy and skill.
Cabopino Golf Club
The Cabopino course offers a layout lined by pines, olives and other indigenous trees. Not overly long, the emphasis is on keeping the ball in play whilst using all of the clubs in the bag. The layout meanders gently to the natural contours until we reach the par 4 third with one of the steepest drops on the coast from tee to fairway. It is not for the faint hearted! As we finish the round, water comes into play more especially on the superb 14 and 15th holes, the latter reminiscent of the short 12th at Augusta.
La Cala Golf Club – Asia Course
Campo Asia, formerly the South Course, is equally stunning as the two other courses at La Cala. With plenty of challenging holes along the way, we are guaranteed a testing round of golf. Water guards both greens at the 3rd and the 14th and in terms of a test of golf course strategy the 18th couldn’t be more challenging.

After a number of years in Tavira we felt that the time was right for a change and we are therefore heading to the south of Spain for the traditional January Golf Week, which is the curtain raiser for the new season. We will play the three superb courses at La Cala, as well as El Chaparral and Cabopino, which combine to form a super itinerary for the week. Our accommodation is the 4 star Hotel Vik Gran Costa del Sol, an ocean front hotel located in La Cala de Mijas. As is tradition with the January Golf Week, we will dine out in different restaurants each evening. This particular week is very much a social week, as well as fine week of golf. Airport and golf transfer are provided throughout the week, and indeed this year included in the cost.
