• Overview

The hotel for the three days of sun-drenched weather in Southport is the Bold Hotel, which is a super boutique hotel, full of charm and character, and well located on Lord Street in the centre of Southport.  Dinner is included within the tour price on the Sunday and Tuesday nights, and for the Monday night Barney, your host for the tour, will book a Restaurant in Southport to provide some variety to the dining experience.

Playing golf along ‘England’s Golf Coast’ in November, may not be quite the same experience as playing in Mauritius or Sri Lanka, but in terms of the golf experience, there surely can be none better.  Weather, I reiterate …please behave.

    The Bold Hotel

The Bold Hotel is one of Southport’s most iconic hotels.  It is a beautifully styled modern boutique hotel with a real a passion for exacting standards. The hotel has undergone an extensive refurbishment in 2020, with a new style Restaurant and Bar, and with all 23 en-suite rooms having had a stunning make-over.  The result is a hotel full of character and charm, where guests can relax in style.  The hotel is the perfect complement to the Golf Clubs being played during the tour and forms the ideal evening retreat to recount the golfing experiences of the day just gone.

    Hillside Golf Club

Hillside Golf Course is a true championship links, overhauled in the 1960’s by renowned architect Fred Hawtree, and is regarded as probably the finest links golf course not to have hosted The Open Championship. Hillside has hosted many amateur and professional tournaments in its illustrious history and was recently selected by the European Tour to stage the 2019 British Masters. The layout of the course is balanced in two halves with the opening holes heading south westward along flat ground beside the railway line. The flatter nine holes of the opening half whet the golfer’s appetite for the contrast that awaits on second nine. Here you will find valleyed corridors through some of the highest and wildest dunes found anywhere. Each hole occupying its own unique site never shared with another.  Quite simply, once played, never forgotten.

    Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club

Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club is testing championship links course with first class facilities.  S&A, as it is widely and affectionately known, was founded in 1906, part of the great golf boom around the turn of the 20th century. Inevitably the passing of so many years has brought about changes to the course, but the traditional feel of a championship links has been retained.  The Club hosted two Ryder Cup matches in 1933 and 1937 and a number of other prestigious championships including The British Ladies’ Open and The British Amateur. It remains a final qualifying course for The Open Championship and it has been voted by one golf magazine as among the top 50 courses in Great Britain.  The course is a magnificent test of golf, especially with the sea breeze and profusion of heather and gorse combining to provide a challenging and immensely enjoyable day.  The spectacular Clubhouse creates a splendid setting for unwinding after a round.

    Royal Birkdale Golf Club

Situated on the golden links of the North West coast in Southport, Royal Birkdale is possibly the finest of all courses in England.  Royal Birkdale has held more Championship and International events since World War 2 than any other course in the world.  Open Championships, Ryder Cups, Women’s British Opens, Senior Opens, Amateur Championships, Walker Cups and Curtis Cups to name but a few.
Royal Birkdale Golf Club has been voted the number one golf club in England, one of the top five clubs in the UK and amongst the top 35 in the world. Visitors are assured of a warm welcome on and off the course delivering a golfing experience second to none. Not every sport allows amateurs to play on the same venue as the professionals, and yet Royal Birkdale is proud of its association with the greatest golf tournament in the world, The Open Championship, and allowing amateur golfers to follow in the footsteps of the greatest golfers in the world and recreate some of the most iconic moments in the history of the game.
