We will be playing Came Down Golf Club, which is a super parkland course on the outskirts of Dorchester, followed by Lyme Regis Golf Club, which is a delightful cliff top course overlooking the Dorset coast towards Portland Bill. Our third round is at Bridport Golf Club, which is a super cliff-top links course. Three quite delightful and distinct golf courses.
The hotel for the tour is the wonderful Bull Hotel in Bridport, a hotel with immense character and charm, complimented by one of the finest restaurants in the area too.
If you wish to book a place on the tour, please let Iain know via the website, email or by phone and a place will be reserved for you accordingly.
The Bull Hotel
The Bull Hotel in Bridport is a quite wonderful boutique hotel and provides the charm and ambience to compliment the golf tour. Each of the 19 rooms are individually styled. They all feature glamorous signature wallpapers, deluxe king-size beds, Smart TVs, white black-out blinds, fine Egyptian cotton linen, robes, Nespresso Machines, and Bramley toiletries in luxury en suite bathrooms. Free, private parking also offers added convenience. The hotel also boasts one of the finest restaurants in Bridport. The head chef cooks up a fine-dining experience with a nod to traditional pub favourites, with an ever-changing Chef’s Signature Specials available for those looking for something new to try.
Came Down Golf Club
Providing a friendly welcome to members and visiting players alike, Came Down is a downland golf course situated between Dorchester and the coastal resort of Weymouth, offering outstanding views in every direction and a beautiful course that is open all year round. The Golf Club was founded in 1896, and boasts an excellent golfing experience, suitable for all skill levels. The course sits on chalk downland and offers stunning 360 degree views to locations such as Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester, Isle of Wight, Maiden Castle and more. The current layout was designed by HS Colt of Muirfield, Royal Lytham, Pine Valley, St Andrews, Wentworth and Sunningdale fame. Indeed, Golf World magazine named the course among their 100 ‘Hidden Gems’, placing the Club in illustrious company.
Lyme Regis Golf Club
The 18 hole par 71 Lyme Regis course occupies a cliff top site with coastal views towards Portland Bill and overlooks the Historical town and World Heritage Site of Lyme Regis. It is a challenging test, with a sea breeze at play most days, and it is ideal for all abilities. The Clubhouse, overlooking the 18th green, makes the ideal location to unwind and relax after the round. Lyme Regis Golf Club was founded in 1893 and is recognised as one of the finest golf courses in the South West.
Bridport Golf Club
Bridport & West Dorset Golf Club is one of the oldest clubs in Dorset. The modern facilities and the attitude of the Club, however, make it very much part of this century. The cliff top links style golf course makes a challenge but fair play for golfers of all levels. Over its long history, the course has seen many changes. For the first 20 years, it was situated on West Cliff before moving to its current site on East Cliff in 1911. It became an 18-hole course in 1921 and since then has witnessed further alterations, the last major one being in 1989 with the acquisition of additional land on which has been built today’s 1st, 9th, 17th and 18th holes and the new Clubhouse. An outstandingly beautiful vista awaits all who play the course with scenic views not only over the sea and shore but inland to the two highest points in Dorset, Pilsdon Pen, and Lewesdon Hill. The signature hole, the 6th, is only 129 yards long but has a drop of over 90 feet with one commentator rating it in the top 100 holes in the world. A dry-stone wall features on four of the holes, one of which is the 371 yard 13th. The legendary Max Faulkner drove the green (365 yards at the time) in an exhibition match in 1952. With a variable wind, changing weather and a challenging course, a round at Bridport is a test for all levels of golfer.
