Our location for the tour is the quite delightful town of Arundel, a picture postcard location if ever there was one. We will be staying at the Swan Hotel in the heart of the village, close to Arundel Castle and a host of excellent eateries.
The golf programme features four quite different and unique courses. On the Sunday afternoon there is the option to play Hayling Golf Club, one of the best links courses on the south coast. East Brighton Golf Club is played on the Monday and is a super test of golf in its own right, and also has one of the most spectacular settings in area, with views along the Sussex coast and out over the English Channel. A ‘downland course’ experience at Worthing Golf Club takes place on the Tuesday, followed by Waterlooville Golf Club taking centre stage on the Wednesday. Sussex offers a wide range of super courses, complimented by the wonderful serene countryside, and good value too.
The Swan Hotel
Situated in the heart of the beautiful West Sussex market town of Arundel, The Swan Hotel is a traditional Country Inn dating back to 1759. The hotel boasts boutique accommodation and specialises in fine cuisine, complimented by a warm welcome and the ambience of the hotels’ classic heritage. Although only small, Arundel boasts the second-highest number of listed buildings in the UK and lies just outside the borders of South Downs National Park. The Swan Hotel is passionate about food and the hotel’s professional chefs produce innovative dishes daily, from the freshest local ingredients that can be found. With regards to the bedrooms, each of the rooms offers a truly comfortable night’s sleep and is individually styled with a riverside theme.
Hayling Golf Club
Hayling Golf Club was established in 1883 and is recognised as one of the premier links course on the South Coast. The challenging links course with fast fairways and fine true greens combined with its stunning location and unique Art Deco clubhouse offer a special golfing experience to all visitors.
East Brighton Golf Club
At 6,346 yards par 72, East Brighton presents a genuine challenge for golfers of all handicaps.
Generous fairways with no impossible carries virtually guarantee an enjoyable round. From the 12th tee the highest point on the course there are spectacular views of the English Channel. From Beachy Head to the east and Selsey Bill to the west. On a clear day the silhouette of the Isle of Wight is visible. One important feature of the course is that drainage as it is built on chalk. Making it playable throughout the year rarely using temporary greens.
Worthing Golf Club
Worthing Golf Club boasts two downland courses. Both the Lower (Championship) Course and the Upper Course are kept in great condition by the green-staff and present a most enjoyable playing experience. The Club was established in 1905 and occupies a commanding position on the slopes of the South Downs providing wonderful views of the Downs and the English Channel. Although a private member’s club, visiting golfers and societies are made to feel welcome to experience the challenging courses and the excellent clubhouse facilities.
Waterlooville Golf Club
Waterlooville Golf Club is a fine parkland course that will have us licking our lips with anticipation as we prepare to set off on the first tee. It is a fair test for players of all levels of ability whether high or low handicapper, with challenges aplenty to excite the more experienced player, without scaring off those new to the game of golf. Having opened in 1907, the Club remains a popular venue with golfers in the county, and indeed beyond. Offering 18 challenging and unique holes, the course stretches for 6,602 yards across some wonderful parkland countryside.
