• Overview

Our hotel for the 2017 January Spanish Golf Week is the Ilunion Fuengirola Hotel.  The hotel is on Fuengirola’s seafront promenade, overlooking Los Boliches Beach and close to the Sailing Club and the Marina of Fuengirola.  The hotel provides free wifi, a seasonal outdoor pool and wonderful panoramic views of the Mediterranean.  All of the rooms are air-conditioned, with satellite TV, a minibar and free water on arrival.  The rooms are also heated should the need arise, and the private bathrooms come with a hairdryer and amenities.  Most of the hotels’ rooms have a balcony.  The hotel also has a very good restaurant and a varied buffet breakfast each morning.  With close proximity to many restaurants, the hotel provides an excellent base for our week in southern Spain.

Mijas Golf Club – Los Lagos course

The Los Lagos course, 6,536 metres in length is the longer of the two Mijas courses.  Whilst keeping the original design of Robert Trent Jones Sr., the course was totally refurbished in 2012.  The Los Lagos course provides soft slopes, wide fairways and few forest trees obstacle.  However, it is defended by many bunkers and nine lakes, from which the course gets its name, eager to trap each and anyone’s ball. The greens are large and flat with sensitive undulations and the wide tees can be accommodated to reduce or enlarge the difficulty by choice.  The Los Lagos is a course suitable for kind of handicap players, and is one of the old establishment courses of the Costa del Sol.  It is a super challenge and ideal for our Spain Golf Week.

Mijas Golf Club – Los Olivos Course

Also designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the main feature which distinguishes this course from Los Lagos is the abundance of trees; hence the name Los Olivos.  The course is also tighter, but there are less water hazards to negotiate.  The greens are smaller than the Los Lagos course, undulating and well defended by plenty of bunkers.  Although both courses are the work of Robert Trent Jones Sr., there are wonderful contrasts between the two courses.  If the challenge of Los Lagos is based on hazards of water and sand, the the challenge of Los Olivos are the strategic narrow tree lined fairways and the elevated greens.  A wonderful combination for our week in Spain.

    Santana Golf Club

Santana Golf Club is situated in the heart of the ‘Mijas Golf Valley’, half way between Fuengirola, Marbella and La Cala.  Surrounded by the rivers Ojén and Las Pasadas, and very close to the Mediterranean Sea, the course is set in the Sierra de Mijas Natural Park with breathtaking views of the mountains; perhaps this is the reason why it’s also known as “The Seven Hills Course”.  The combination of a magnificent design and an excellent state of preservation, have made Santana one of the finest courses in Andalucía.

Price Per Person

Price per golfer:                £995.00

Price per non golfer:       £785.00

Single room supplement:      £20.00 per night

I feel that I must also make reference to the price of the tour, which is more expensive than recent January Golf Week events.  With destinations such as Turkey and North Africa now being ‘off-limits’ to the travelling golfer, much of the golf holiday market has returned to Spain and Portugal, and the hotels and golf clubs have responded by putting their prices up.  The ‘Brexit’ decision and the subsequent devaluation of the Pound then occurred after these price rises, thereby compounding the price rises even further.  The cost of our overseas events to Spain and Portugal in 2017 are therefore more expensive than a year ago, but we hope that you will agree that they still provide excellent value for money.
