• Overview

The Siem Reap province is located in the north west of Cambodia. It is the major tourist hub in Cambodia, as it is the closest city to the world famous temples of Angkor.

The provincial capital is also called Siem Reap and is located on the shores of the Tonle Sap Lake, the greatest sweet water reserve in whole of South-East Asia.  The name of the city literally means ‘Siamese defeated’, referring to the victory of the Khmer Empire over the army of the Thai kingdom in the 17th century.

The Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club
The Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club was designed by Kentaro Sato, the well-known Japanese golf course designer. The course layout features generous palm lined fairways and with five sets of tees, is suitable all standards of golfer.  Both nines open with long par 5’s which is a bit unusual. Additionally, the toughest par 4’s are saved for holes 9 and 18, insuring that golfers keep their concentration through to the end of the front and back, respectively, to score well.  Other unique features of the Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club course are the meandering creeks that cross several of the holes and the excellent greenside bunkering, both which demand accurate shot making to score well. Several of the holes feature split fairways making for both aggressive and conservative approaches to the greens. On the other hand the fairways are wide and flat and the greens very large which balances out the course difficultly very nicely.  An excellent course to commence our golf experience in Cambodia.

Private Full Day Tour of Angkor Wat
Angkor is one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia.  It extends over approximately 400 square kilometres and consists of scores of temples, hydraulic structures (basins, dykes, reservoirs, canals) as well as communication routes. For several centuries Angkor was the centre of the Khmer Kingdom. With impressive monuments, several different ancient urban plans and large water reservoirs, the site is a unique concentration of features testifying to an exceptional civilization. Temples such as Angkor Wat, the Bayon, Preah Khan and Ta Prohm, exemplars of Khmer architecture, are closely linked to their geographical context as well as being imbued with symbolic significance. The architecture and layout of the successive capitals bear witness to a high level of social order and ranking within the Khmer Empire. Angkor is therefore a major site exemplifying cultural, religious and symbolic values, as well as containing high architectural, archaeological and artistic significance. UNESCO has set up a wide-ranging programme to safeguard this symbolic site and its surroundings.  The park is inhabited, and many villages, some of whom the ancestors are dating back to the Angkor period, are scattered throughout the park. The population practices agriculture and more specifically rice cultivation.  We will spend the day in the company of a specialist tour guide who will take us on a private tour experiencing all of the wonders of this quite extraordinary region.  The day will include lunch.

    Sunday 16th February

    The Angkor Golf Resort
The world class Faldo designed Angkor Golf Resort is the best golf course in Cambodia.  The six-time major winner Nick Faldo himself, received a blessing from local monks and then opened the golf course in December 2007, his first golf course in Cambodia.  The Siem Reap course is a fair test of golf for all players and requires thinking and strategy on every hole to score well. The greens have plenty of subtle undulations and they reward and encourage a variety of approach shots.  The final 3 holes make up some of the most challenging, but fun, holes on the course. The par-5 16th is a monster that is probably not reachable in two shots except for very long hitters. The angle of the green together with the water on the left of the hole, poses a real challenge for those wishing to get their approach shots close.  Hole 17 is the longest par 3 on the course and plays to a green guarded by water on the right side.  The 440 yard par 4 finishing hole is as good as they come and will certainly lead to some dramatic finishes, a Faldo signature! The hole is a slight dogleg to the left. However, water runs down the left side affecting both the tee shot and the approach. The best tee shot must challenge the water on the left to open up the approach into the green.  A fitting finale to our golf in Cambodia!Angkor Golf
