• Overview

The 2015 South Africa Tour was a success, but we have made enhancements to the logistical arrangements for this tour.  The transportation will be in luxury mini-coaches with spacious reclining seats and we have employed the services of specialist tour guides for the sightseeing days. With the dinners in the evenings we will be pre-booking restaurants each night as usual, but also encouraging clients to dine independantly if they wish, as the culinary scene in South Africa is both superb and diverse and we don’t want clients to feel that they must dine with the group all of the time.

We have also extended the tour by a week in order to give you more choice of the weeks that you may wish to attend. This should also ensure that the number of clients attending each week does not become too excessive. Ultimately these tours are about creating personal experiences that will live long in the memory and our ethos is very much about caring for you, our client, and ensuring that you feel very much at the heart of what we do.  You may of course book all four weeks, but equally please select the combination of weeks that is best for you and we will book you in accordingly.  If you wish to book for South Africa 2016, please contact us and let the countdown to a wonderful tour commence!

Saturday 27th February – Welcome to Cape Town

Our intention with the 2016 tour is to provide clients with the option of booking, one, two, three or indeed all four of the weeks, but in the expectation that most clients are likely to travel for three weeks. With the popularity of South Africa, especially in the depths of the British winter, we are presenting four week long segments to try and dilute the number of clients attending each week to a point where everyone rightly feels very much at the heart of what is going on. We are therefore returning to the Western Cape for the fourth week, to provide clients with the opportunity to experience Cape Town, should they have joined from weeks 2 or 3 for example. Rest assured, if you want to book for all four weeks, you certainly can!

Our hotel for the week is the Protea Hotel Victoria Junction Waterfront, which has a creative and urban feel to it and which is located close to the Green Point Stadium and the V&A Waterfront. A hybrid of modernist and contemporary chic design, the hotel interior has recently been reinterpreted to be more sophisticated, but remains the darling of the glamorous set in Cape Town. The bedrooms, restaurant, bar and coffee shop all offer facilties and services of the highest quality ensuring that all guests needs are well attended to.

Sunday 28th February – West Coast Experience!

Our week in Cape Town starts with sightseeing as opposed to golf, but something a little different to the usual tourist trail! We will visit the town of Darling, regarded as one of the most beautiful small towns in the world. With its abundant flora attractions as well as numerous cultural events, the wonderful local beer produce and wines from historic wine farms in and around the town, Darling is charming and endearing and must be visited! From Darling we will head to the West Coast National Park for a bushmen cultural experience. We will enjoy lunch at an old cape dutch house serving traditional food, the cost of which is included in the tour, before heading back to Cape Town mid afternoon to enjoy what is surely one of the most impressive cities in the world.

Monday 29th February – Milnerton Golf Club

It has been a while since we playing Milnerton, but it will be good to be back. One of the few genuine links courses in the Cape Town area, not only is the course a fine challenge, but the panorama of Table Mountain across the Table Bay is simply breathtaking. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Rietvlei River, this lush links-type course is fairly flat with few trees. With the sea and the lagoon bordering most holes, and the seven beautiful water holes waiting to claim the wayward shot, it offers a truly unique golfing experience. After the round we will head to the Sunset lounge in the Clubhouse, situated just a few paces off the beach, to savour the picture postcard view across the bay to Table Mountain. It really is what Cape Town is all about. If we are lucky, we may even spot a school of Dolphins that frequent the area.

Tuesday 1st March – Steenberg Golf Club

Unmistakable in its authenticity, Steenberg is a place of textured heritage, vintage wines and world class golfing, situated in the lush Constantia Valley, just 20 minutes from the centre of Cape Town.

The golf course, consistently named one of the best conditioned courses in South Africa Golf Digest’s annual Top 100, attracts golfers seeking a total golfing experience. Known for its hybrid plan, it offers traditionalists the opportunity to ‘bump and run’ (a rare shot in South Africa) in the rough around the greens, and to meet the challenges of strategically placed sand pits and waterways. The par 3 14th hole features the largest green in Africa at 76 meters in length. Indigenous shrubs guard the green and the mound has been shaped to echo the distinctive mountain range behind. The 18-hole golf course was designed to make full use of natural features and hazards such as the vineyards, pine forest and gentle waterways. Its environmental diversity gives the course its unique character.

Wednesday 2nd March – Coastal Tour

Our sightseeing day, in the company of Johan Wolmarans our expert tour guide, takes us along False Bay to Hermanus, South Africa’s whale watching capital and home to the best land-based whale watching in the world. With its unparalleled scenic beauty, upmarket shops and quite unique character, Hermanus is certainly worth exploring for a good few hours. We will take lunch at the Burgundy Restaurant, situated on the very edge of the bay and only a few metres away from Hermanus’s historic old harbour. Lunch is included in the tour cost. We will then drive back to Greenpoint via the Franschhoek Pass. This route offers stunning views and rugged mountain landscapes. There are a few viewing points along the way where we will stop to take photos and admire some of the best views in South Africa.

Thursday 3rd March – Royal Cape Golf Club

The Royal Cape Golf Club is very much the establishment course of the Cape Town area. Established over 100 years ago, the course has now evolved into what it is today a classic parkland course that provides a fine test of golf as well as a wonderful playing experience. The course is in superb year round condition with well grassed fairways, smooth greens and challenging bunkers. It also boasts magnificent views of Table Mountain. Although the course is on flat terrain, the playing of Royal Cape is subject to three of nature’s beguiling offerings, a near constant wind to challenge us, sweeping mountain views to charm and distract us and water features to ensnare us! The Royal Cape golf course is without doubt one of the best and most challenging courses to play both in the Western Cape. It is a course of championship stature, playing to a par of 72 and which has hosted the South African Open on ten occasions as well as many other professional and top amateur events.

Friday 4th March – Clovelly Golf Club

We head to what has become our favourite course in the Western Cape over the last 15 years or so, Clovelly. Clovelly is one of southern Africa’s most picturesque and challenging courses and boasts undulating fairways, magnificent landscaping and features natural sand dunes that abound the course, as well as many natural water features. Clovelly really is one of the most enjoyable courses in the Cape and a fitting finale to our golf in the Western Cape.
