    Saturday 23rd November

Welcome to Limpopo Golf and Game!

For over ten years we have travelled to different regions of South Africa, primarily to the Western and Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and the Drakensburg Mountains. But the Limpopo Province is a first and what a treat we have in store. From Johannesburg airport we will be transferred north for the two hour drive to the Bush Lodge at the Zebula Golf Estate & Spa. There are many superb golf estates in South Africa, but few can match Zebula, a stunning and totally unique destination in the magnificent malaria-free Waterberg region of the Limpopo Province. Located on 1,600 hectares of pristine bushveld in the shadow of the Waterberg Mountains, Zebula has a spectacular setting. Undulating, indigenous tree-covered hills and wide-open grasslands are punctuated with frequent dams and waterholes – a diverse landscape that supports a wide variety of game, birds and small wildlife. Indeed, the residents of the Estate include kudu, impala, blue wildebeest, zebra, blesbok, red haartebeest, giraffe, eland, jackal, warthog, ostrich as well as many other indigenous species. There are even tamed cheetahs, which takes the wildlife experience to whole new level. We will also experience game drives in the adjoining Mabalingwe Nature Reserve where we may also see rhino, buffalo and elephant.

The Peter Matkovitch-designed Zebula golf course respects the environment, following the natural contours of the terrain with a masterful symphony of indigenous bush and landscaped areas. Surprising for its bushveld location, water supply is both abundant and sustainable, ensuring that the quality of the greens is unrivalled and that playing surfaces are always top notch.

The Zebula club house is the estate’s crowning glory, in a prime position for sundowners on the deck while watching a blood-red African sunset over the distant Waterberg Mountains. There is a thought that comes to mind when staying at

Zebula, and it is simply, ‘this is truly Africa’.

Zebula Golf Club and the ‘Ellies’

Our first full day will commence with a round at Zebula. The course is a classic bushveld par 72 course, set in the open plains of the reserve with game roaming freely. The course is relatively flat yet undulating with generous fairways and clusters of trees that act as hazards. Voted the Golf Digest’s “Best New Golf Course 2004” and awarded the 5

star Golf Experience for 2010 by Compleat Golfer, Zebula has matured wonderfully over the past few years into a truly great course to play. Zebula was designed by the legendary Peter Matkovich, a golf professional for 25 years, and a world-respected golf course designer for more than 15 years. When it comes to golf course design, first and foremost Peter is an environmentalist – seamlessly blending nature and design to create golf courses that are inherently sensitive to local environments. The layout, built to USGA specifications with kikuyu fairways and bent grass greens is so much part of the bushveld experience that we shouldn’t be surprised to encounter a lofty giraffe or a shy zebra or two during our golfing experience.

Following our round and a bite to eat, we will be off to meet the elephants. We will visit the neighbouring ‘Adventures with Elephants,’ which is managed by the Hensman family, who have been extremely privileged to live and work with elephants since 1988. We will learn all about elephants. We will witness their intelligence, compassionate nature and their sheer delight in interacting with their human companions.

    Elements Private Golf Club

We will travel to the Elements Private Golf Reserve today, also rated as one of South Africa’s top 10 courses. As with Zebula, the surrounding bushveld terrain varies between natural hillsides and open plains, with mountain views and perennial streams. The golf course itself meanders through a fertile valley of indigenous vegetation and artful landscaping. The club house is located on a rise overlooking the 9th and 18th holes and offers an unsurpassed view of the course and surrounding landscape.

Tuesday 26th November Day at leisure

A day to relax and do very little, or a day to embrace one or more of the many activities from which to choose at Zebula. There are Bush walks and drives, spa treatments, additional golf if required, interactions with animals, quad and horseback safaris, fishing, archery, clay target shooting and tennis. Simply enquire at reception and your requirements will be arranged accordingly.

Euphoria Golf Club and onwards to the Legend Golf & Safari Resort

After breakfast, we will have our photographs taken with the resident cheetahs, before checking out and being transferred to the Euphoria Golf Estate. The tranquil setting of Euphoria belies the challenging nature of the Annika Sorenstam designed course. Designed with a serious commitment to the preservation of the indigenous fauna and flora, it is the combination of golf and the unsurpassed beauty of the Waterberg landscape that makes Euphoria such a unique golfing experience. Having completed our round, we move on to the world renowned Legend Golf & Safari Resort.

The Legend Golf & Safari Resort is one of the world’s finest and most unique golf resorts. Home to the ‘World-in-One’ Signature course, where each of the 18 holes has been designed by a world golfing legend. In addition, we can take the challenge of the world’s most talked about and unique par 3, the ‘Extreme 19th.’ Set high up on the impressive Hanglip Mountain, the hole is accessible only by helicopter and played to a green the shape of Africa some 400m below. It is beyond comparison!

In terms of the accommodation, the resort’s estate rooms have been built to the highest specification and effortlessly combine African style with modern

amenity. Combine luxurious living with quality cuisine in an outstanding location and the Legend Golf & Safari Resort really does live up to its reputation as one of the finest golf resorts in the world.

Sunrise Game Drive and the Signature Course

Firstly, we will be up early for the ‘Sunrise Big 5 Game Drive,’ a wonderful experience if you haven’t done it before, one always to look forward to again, if you have.

After breakfast, we will then play the Legend Golf & Safari Resort Signature course. Each hole has been designed by eighteen of the world’s top golfers. These leading professionals have shared their fascination and spirit of golf, in the design of the course. The list of signatures who have been honoured to design a hole reads like a who’s who of world golf; Trevor Immelman, former US Masters Champion; Padraig Harrington, two-time Open Champion and US PGA champion; Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie, Justin Rose, Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia and Retief Goosen to name but a few.

The Signature Course and Sunset Game Drive

We play our second round on the Signature course. The course begins with South African designer Trevor Immelman and ends with South African designer Retief Goosen. Not only has the course been designed by the leading names in golf, but with game meandering across the lush fairways and the

enigmatic Hanglip Mountain overlooking the course, it simply offers the most tremendous character.

For those unphased by helicopters, there is of course the enticing challenge of the ‘Extreme 19th’. The cost is approximately £100.00 and bookings can be made onsite. Alternatively, we can pre-book for you on request.

The day draws to a close with a Sunset Big 5 Game Drive, a different, yet equally as stunning an experience as the Sun Rise Game Drive.

    Tribute Course and Departures

All good things have to come to an end and we will draw the tour to a close by playing yet another of the unique golfing features at the Legend Golf & Safari Resort, the 10 hole Tribute course.

The Tribute course pays homage to some of the greatest golf holes ever designed. The course is made up of nine world famous holes and one self-designed hole, an African Redan. The famous golf holes paid ‘tribute’ to are:

    1st Pine Valley, 10th hole

2nd Royal Troon, The Postage Stamp

3rd St Andrews Old Course, 11th hole

    4th Augusta , 12th hole ‘Golden Bell’

    5th Royal Melbourne, 6th hole

    6th Augusta, 16th hole ‘Redbud’

    7th Rivera Country Club , 7th hole

    8th An African Redan hole

    9th Yale University, 9th hole

    10th Sawgrass, 17th hole

And so we will then pack our bags and head back to Johannesburg airport for the journey home.
