Sunday  15th February – Knysna Golf Club

Our golf on the Garden Route warms up with a most enjoyable round at Knysna Golf Club, which is located very close to the hotel.  Nestled on the shores of the Knysna Lagoon and close to the Knysna Heads, the course meanders through tidal pools and between magnificent indigenous trees.  The course has been enhanced greatly over the past ten years since we have been playing it and it has some of the best greens in the Southern Cape.   Our tee-times commence at 9:00am, which will provide time in the afternoon to explore Knysna, so frequently voted South Africa’s favourite town.

Monday 16th February – Pezula Golf Club

We go from the pleasant and relatively straightforward challenge of Knysna Golf Club, to tackling the breathtaking and award-winning on-site Pezula Golf Club, which provides one of the ultimate challenges in the area.  A tough challenge, with some of the best scenery from a golf course in South Africa, we will certainly be putting ourselves to the challenge today.  Our tee-times are again first thing in the morning, providing time in the afternoon to explore the town and area.  It is certainly worth wandering down to Noetzie Beach, a wonderful beach in its own right (but dangerous to swim from because of the currents), but made all the more spectacular with the castles that are present just above the shore line.  They have to be seen to be believed!  Knysna also has a plethora of superb restaurants and we will be ensuring that we dine at some of the best and most varied ones during the week.

Tuesday 17th February – Oubaai Golf Club

It’s tempting to describe every round that we play in South Africa as a special treat and arguably they all are, but Oubaai is right out of the top drawer!  Situated adjacent to Herolds Bay, close to George, the course is set with a 180 degree view of the Indian Ocean.  The Ernie Els 18 hole Championship course is kept in mint condition and it is one of the most beautiful settings that can be seen anywhere in the golfing world.  It was recently awarded the third best conditioned course in Southern Cape and the tenth in South Africa. The layout of the course is a traditional links type layout where veld grasses line the manicured fairways.   A round of golf and a setting that will live long in the memory.

Wednesday 18th February – Exploring the Garden Route

A day off from the fairways and time to explore the wonders of the Garden Route.  We will concentrate on the area from Knysna to Storms River Mouth.  We will visit Plettenburg Bay and doubltless have a drink and a bite to eat at the famous Lookout Deck Restaurant whilst we are there.  We will travel to Natures Valley, Storms River Mouth and the Tsitsikkama National Forest and take in the magificent coastal and forestry settings.  Although we will have a framework for the day, if you have any particular wishes please let us know and we will incorporate them as best we can.

Thursday 19th February –  Simola Golf Club

The Simola course as a golf course challenge is magnificent, add in the setting, and the jaw drops at the splendour of the forest and the views over the valleys and the Indian Ocean in the distance.  Simola has been our favourite course on the Garden Route since it opened a few years ago.  Simola is the first Jack Nicklaus signature course on the Garden Route, reflecting the maestro’s philosophy of attuning the layout and design to the natural lie of the land.  The course offers challenge and reward amidst the spectacular scenery.  Set below the high ridges, the course is free from the wind that so often plagues coastal courses. The fairways flow with the natural undulating contours of the terrain and the unusual configuration of five par 5’s and five par 3’s adds a new dimension to the round.  It’s par for the course that every hole boasts exceptional views; either out across the Knysna Lagoon all the way to the Heads or over the picturesque Knysna River as it twists and turns through the valley below.  We will have the afternoon at leisure to spend more time in Knysna, or perhaps to take a boat trip around the lagoon, or to simply relax in 5 star luxury at the hotel.

Friday 20th February – Plettenberg Bay Golf Club

Today we play Plettenberg Bay Golf Club, another favourite with clients.  The course is easy to walk, and the two main inclines can be observed from the veranda of the club house.  Lush Kikuyu grass fairways and bay view greens recently over seeded to bent grass, provide players with an excellent playing surface.  The course also has no intrusive houses or traffic noise and is populated only with indigenous flora and fauna. The natural beauty of the course has been carefully retained.   Baboons, vervet monkeys, birdlife like the Knysna loerie and woodpeckers as well as the occasional bushbuck and deer, are the most likely distraction to our game.  In the evening we will ensure that the week is brought to a close with a restaurant that compliments the quality of the week.  Cape Town and the Winelands are awe inspiring, the Garden Route is magestic splendour and this is why South Africa grabs you and doesn’t let go!

Notes on internal flights

If you are booking Weeks 1 & 2, please book your return flight from George Airport back to the UK, via either Cape Town or Johannesburg.  However, if you are continuing onto Week 3 and the Mpumalanga Province, we will quote the cost of the internal flights from George to the Kruger Mpumulanga International Airport (KMIA) and back to Johannesburg as a separate supplementary cost.  Indeed, it would be worth asking your international flight provider to quote for the internal flights as part of your overall flight booking, as this may result in achieving a better price than booking the internal flights separately.  If you do require us to book the flights however, we will liaise with our associate Travel Agent, Select World Travel, to achieve the most convenient and cost effective flight times for you.
