• Overview

The 2015 South Africa Tour was a success, but we have made enhancements to the logistical arrangements for this tour.  The transportation will be in luxury mini-coaches with spacious reclining seats and we have employed the services of specialist tour guides for the sightseeing days. With the dinners in the evenings we will be pre-booking restaurants each night as usual, but also encouraging clients to dine independantly if they wish, as the culinary scene in South Africa is both superb and diverse and we don’t want clients to feel that they must dine with the group all of the time.

We have also extended the golf tour by a week in order to give you more choice of the weeks that you may wish to attend. This should also ensure that the number of clients attending each week does not become too excessive. Ultimately these tours are about creating personal experiences that will live long in the memory and our ethos is very much about caring for you, our client, and ensuring that you feel very much at the heart of what we do.  You may of course book all four weeks, but equally please select the combination of weeks that is best for you and we will book you in accordingly.  If you wish to book for South Africa 2016, please contact us and let the countdown to a wonderful tour commence!

Saturday 13th February – Welcome to Knysna

For the second week of the tour we return to the ever popular Knysna, in the heart of the Garden Route. As with the 2015 tour we will be staying at the 5 Star Conrad Pezula Resort Hotel, one of South Africa’s top 25 hotels. The Resort is set on the cliffs above Knysna, between the Knysna Heads to the west and Noetzie Beach, with its famous castles to the east. The hotel provides the finest luxury, all amenities imaginable, as well as having the dramatic Pezula golf course on site. The hotel does have quite a range of rooms however, with our allocation of rooms being ‘King Deluxe rooms.’ These are very good rooms indeed, but if you would like details of upgrade options, please let us know and we will advise you of what is available and at what cost!

Sunday 14th February – Knysna Golf Club

Our golf on the Garden Route warms up with a most enjoyable round at Knysna Golf Club, which is located very close to the hotel. Nestled on the shores of the Knysna Lagoon and close to the Knysna Heads, the course meanders through tidal pools and between magnificent indigenous trees. The course has been enhanced greatly over the past ten years since we have been playing it and it has some of the best greens in the Southern Cape.  Our tee-times commence at 9:00am, which will provide time in the afternoon to explore Knysna, so frequently voted South Africa’s favourite town.

Monday 15th February – Simola Golf Club

Year after year this is the course that clients rave about and want to play over and over. So much so that we are indeed playing it twice this year! The Simola course as a golf course challenge is magnificent, but add in the setting, and the jaw drops at the splendour of the forest and the views over the valleys and the Indian Ocean in the distance. Simola is the first Jack Nicklaus signature course on the Garden Route, reflecting the maestro’s philosophy of attuning the layout and design to the natural lie of the land. The course offers challenge and reward amidst the spectacular scenery. Set below the high ridges, the course is free from the wind that so often plagues coastal courses. The fairways flow with the natural undulating contours of the terrain and the unusual configuration of five par 5s and five par 3s adds a new dimension to the round. Its par for the course that every hole boasts exceptional views; either out across the Knysna Lagoon all the way to the Heads or over the picturesque Knysna River as it twists and turns through the valley below.

Tuesday 16th February – Plettenberg Bay Golf Club

Today we play Plettenberg Bay Golf Club, another favourite with clients. The course is easy to walk, and the two main inclines can be observed from the veranda of the club house. Lush Kikuyu grass fairways and bay view greens recently over seeded to bent grass, provide players with an excellent playing surface. The course also has no intrusive houses or traffic noise and is populated only with indigenous flora and fauna. The natural beauty of the course has been carefully retained.   Baboons, vervet monkeys, birdlife like the Knysna loerie and woodpeckers as well as the occasional bushbuck and deer, are the most likely distraction to our game. After the round we will head into Plettenberg Bay and the Lookout Deck & Restaurant, which has one of the most spectacular settings along the Garden Route and serves very good food too!

Wednesday 17th February – Oudtshoorn and Buffelsdrift Game Lodge

We take a day off from the fairways today and have an optional sightseeing day, but one that I would highly recommend. We will be collected at 7:45am and driven to buffelsdrift for a two hour game drive (10am -12pm). After the game drive we will be driven to Oudtshoorn, famous for ostriches. We will visit an ostrich farm and have lunch, which is included in the tour cost. After lunch we will have the ‘Ostrich experience’, which essentially means anyone light enough and dare I say it, mad enough, to ride an ostrich may do so! We will then proceed to the Cango Caves, before heading back through the Outeniqua Mountains to Knysna.
A note for the ladies, Johan our Cape Town guide, has a contact at the factory where the ostrich hand bags are manufactured. If anyone is interested in buying one, as they will be cheaper than buying them at the stalls or markets, we can arrange a visit to the factory.

Thursday 18th February – Simola Golf Club

We return to Simola for our second round on the course. Our instinct with golf tours is to play a course once, in order that as many courses as practical can be experienced. However, Simola is so good that it really does justify a second round.

Friday 19th February – Pezula Golf Club

For the last round on the Garden Route we tackle the breathtaking and award-winning on-site Pezula Golf Club, which provides one of the ultimate challenges in the area. A tough challenge, with some of the best scenery from a golf course in South Africa, we will certainly be putting ourselves to the challenge today. Our tee-times are again first thing in the morning, providing time in the afternoon to explore the town and area, or indeed to pack in readiness for the next leg of the journey. I would certainly recommend wandering down to Noetzie Beach, which is a wonderful beach in its own right (but dangerous to swim from because of the currents), but made all the more spectacular with the castles that are present just above the shore line. They have to be seen to be believed!

Saturday 20th February – Homeward bound or on to Kwa-Zulu Natal!

After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and head to George airport for the journey home, or to commence the third week in Durban.
