    Saturday 9th November

    Welcome to South Africa

Our first week is spent in the charming town of Stellenbosch, the largest of the three Winelands towns, Paarl and Franschhoek being the other two. Famous for its wine estates and Cape Dutch architecture, Stellenbosch is a vibrant, thriving town and the perfect location for our first week in South Africa. Our hotel for the week is the Batavia Boutique Hotel. The hotel presents itself as a grand 19th century guest house, with modern facilities, and is ideally located in the heart of the town. Our aim this year is to move away from the resort hotels and experience true South

African hospitality at a more local level, whilst still maintaining high standards. The Batavia Boutique Hotel achieves just that.

Sunday 10th November Cape Town Tour

For the first full day of the tour, we have decided not to play golf this year. Instead we will use the day to relax into the Western Cape way of life and visit some of the iconic sites in the region. We will travel to Cape Town and weather permitting, ascend Table Mountain for one of the world’s most spectacular views. We will drive to Hout Bay, along the awe inspiring Chapman’s Peak, visit the penguins at Boulders Beach, and travel on to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope.

Monday 11th November De Zalze Golf Club

We begin our golf at the ever popular De Zalze Golf Club, which is situated within the De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate. The course was designed by Peter Matkovich, who also designed Leopard Rock, Arabella and Pinnacle Point amongst others, and who has made the most of the stunning setting and created a course that places a premium on accuracy. The course has an excellent mix of parkland holes, with its main challenges presented in the form of the water features on several holes, as well as the oak tree lined Blaauwklippen River, which winds its way through the Golf Estate and comes into play at various intervals. A super course to start our golf adventures and located only a few minutes away from the hotel.

Tuesday 12th November Pearl Valley Golf Club

We will take on one of the great courses in South Africa today, the Jack Nicklaus Pearl Valley Golf Club, host to the South African Open and ranked the fifth best golf course in South Africa in the 2010/2011 Golf Digest rankings. The course is one of the most visually spectacular golf courses in the country and arguably the world. Every hole is played against the spectacular backdrop of the mountains surrounding the estate and all are challenging due to the strategically set bunkers and fast greens. All par 3’s and par 5’s play in different directions, ensuring that the same conditions are seldom experienced during a round. The 13th hole, par 3, is the ‘signature’ hole of the course. The water cuts from the right and a greenside bunker awaits the cautious tee shot. This hole tests both our ball striking and our nerve. Hole 4 is also challenging, with no room for error as we need to cross the creek three times en-route to the green. This par 5 is listed as one of the best par 5’s in South Africa – a real ‘risk and reward’ classic!

    Winelands Sightseeing Day

A day away from the fairways, but in amongst the vines! The Winelands region is a magical mix of vineyards, mountains, valleys and three wonderfully charismatic towns. Stellenbosch we will get to know as the week progresses, but we will also visit Paarl and Franschhoek, both of which have their own unique character. During the day we will also endeavor to come off the tourist trail and experience some of the smaller wine estates. However, it is not all about the wine today, as the scenery and ambience of the region is simply enchanting.

Thursday 14th November Arabella Golf Club

We head east today along False Bay and up and through Sir Lowry’s Pass, to the famous Arabella Golf Club. Hugely popular last year, this classic parkland course stretches through rolling fairways, deceptive bunkers and challenging water traps and is complimented by spectacular views across the Bot River Lagoon and the Kogelberg mountain range. The course is ranked by the Complete Golfer magazine as the number one golf course in the Western Cape and it is also home to the annual Nelson Mandela Invitational Tournament. There is no doubt that a round of golf here ranks with the best experiences anywhere in the world.

    Friday 15th November

    Stellenbosch Golf Club

We conclude our golf in the Winelands with a round at Stellenbosch Golf Club itself. The Championship course has hosted many prestigious

tournaments in the past, amongst them the South African Open and the South African Masters. Indeed the 1999 South African Open at Stellenbosch Golf Club proved to be one of the toughest Opens in the last decade or so.

Departures and onward to the Garden Route

After breakfast, we check out of the hotel, say farewell to the Winelands and head to the pearl of the Garden Route, Knysna.
