• Overview

The Dunkeld House Hotel, Dunkeld, Perthshire

Imagine a quintessentially Scottish Country House Hotel on the bank of the River Tay, at the foot of the Highlands and in the heart of Scotland.  Well imagine no further, as the Dunkeld Country House Hotel is just that, and this is our hotel for the week.  Nestled into the beautiful Perthshire countryside, the hotel boasts an unrivalled experience of Scottish country living.  The hotel sits on 280 acres of well-maintained and natural woodland and overlooks the wide and fast-flowing River Tay, renowned for its famous salmon fishing.  The bedrooms are excellent, the public areas so very Scottish and the Restaurant serves a very fine cuisine.  For the Scottish tour, we wanted to include an iconic Scottish setting to compliment the wonderful golf courses that we will be playing.

    Blairgowrie Golf Club

The Rosemount course at Blairgowrie was the venue for Greg Norman’s first European tour victory.  Designed by James Braid, with influences from Dr. Alistair McKenzie, the renowned architect of the Augusta National course, the Rosemount course has played host to a number of prestigious professional and amateur tournaments. The more forgiving fairways are compensated with larger and more undulating greens than its younger neighbour, the Lansdowne course, giving us a testing but rewarding challenge.

    Crieff Golf Club

Crieff Golf Club is rated as one of Scotland’s top inland courses.  Surrounded by beautiful countryside, in the heart of Perthshire, the course provides a feeling of escape as well as the spectacular views.  Built on gently sloping parkland which were once the grounds of Ferntower House, the course provides a fair, but challenging experience for all levels of player. Excellent playing conditions and a friendly reception to visitors led to the Club being voted as one of the top UK golf courses by readers of Golf World magazine.

    Pitlochry Golf Club

Pitlochry Golf is one of the finest inland golfing facilities in Scotland, from the fantastic course with sweeping views of the Tummel Valley to the state-of-the art Clubhouse.  The course provides the perfect blend of exhilarating golf and pure relaxation and will test all elements of our game.  The 5,700-yard course boasts manicured greens and tree-lined fairways with a majestic mountainous backdrop whilst the Clubhouse and Pro Shop offer great facilities and service.

    Dunkeld & Birnam Golf Club

Dunkeld and Birnam Golf Club was constituted in 1892, with the original course designed by the legendary Old Tom Morris and situated in the village of Birnam.  The current course is often regarded as one of the most picturesque golf courses in Highland Perthshire.  Officially opened in 1922 by Her Grace, The Duchess of Atholl, the course has a magnificent heathland setting on a hillside above the historic town of Dunkeld.  The passing decades have seen many improvements made whilst retaining a unique local character.  From the course looking southwest, the outlook is over Dunkeld Cathedral and along Strathbraan whilst to the east wide-ranging views encompass Loch of the Lowes where ospreys breed each spring.  We are guaranteed a friendly welcome, warm hospitality and an enjoyable round of golf on a well-prepared course with excellent greens.

    Blairgowrie Golf Club

The Lansdowne championship course at Blairgowrie has hosted many major PGA and SGU events.  The course, designed by respected partnership of Peter Allis and Dave Thomas, hosted the Scottish Amateur Championship in 2013 and PGA Championship Final in 2014, and is a true championship course and a fine test of golf.  It offers a more challenging test than the Rosemount course, as players navigate their way through swathes of pine and silver birch trees, putting a premium on accuracy from the tee.  With smaller greens than its older neighbour, the Lansdowne provides a challenging but pleasurable test for all levels of golfer.

    The Edradour Whisky Distillery Tour

Touring Scotland would not be complete without tasting a wee dram … or two!  And so, on the non-golfing day we will head to the Edradour Whisky Distillery, world renowned as the smallest traditional distillery in Scotland and arguably the most unique.  Dating back to 1825, Edradour, stands alone as the last stronghold of handmade single malt whisky from a farm distillery still in production today. And, with matchless commitment to retaining authentic small-scale production, Edradour uniquely boasts over 25 distinctive expressions of Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky with their wonderful characters and flavours. The visit will be an unforgettably stimulating experience.  We will see whisky being made first hand amidst sights, sounds, smells and most importantly the exquisite tastes we will always remember. There will of course be tasting too!  Given the nature of the day we will also arrange for return coach transfers from the hotel.
