• Overview

    THE DONA FILIPA HOTEL

The Dona Filipa Hotel is quite simply one of the finest hotels in the Algarve.  The hotel has been welcoming guests since 1968.  The hotel is famous for delivering traditional Portuguese style and charm, with all the comfort, luxury and elegance one would expect from an award winning five-star hotel.  After a great round on the golf course, a relaxing trip to the beach, or even a fun filled day exploring the extensive natural beauty nearby and nature reserves, one will be welcomed back into a luxury room containing everything we need to relax and recharge for the next stage of our holiday.

QUINTA DO LAGO GOLF CLUB – SOUTH COURSE

Opened in 1974, Quinta do Lago South has hosted the ‘Portuguese Open Championship’ eight times, together with many other important professional and amateur championships. The course is set in a natural setting surrounded by umbrella pines, lakes and wild vegetation, with the stunning Ria Formosa nature reserve as the backdrop.  Each hole has generous landing areas off the tees and well-defined routes through the woodland and pine setting.

    PINHEIROS ALTOS GOLF CLUB

The 27-hole Pinheiros Altos Golf Course is situated in the Quinta do Lago nature reserve. The fairways of the 27-holes run through the pine tree forest and over generous and attractive open spaces. Located within the well-known luxury Quinta do Lago Estate, this course has gained a solid reputation for providing great enjoyment, whilst also a stern mental challenge due to the well-placed hazards.  There are three independent loops of nine holes, and they are named the Pinheiros (Pines), Sobreiros (Corks), the Oliveiras (Olives), the Pinheiros (Pines), respectively. They all start and end at the Club House.

    SAN LORENZO GOLF CLUB

The San Lorenzo golf course is also located in the Quinta do Lago nature reserve and enjoys a reputation for the excellent condition of its fairways and its attractive views around a lake formed by the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. It was for many years ranked as the second-best course to play in Europe.  The outward first five holes are played through the pine tree forest. Water and good hole layouts provide the hazards that play a big part in having to select the right club and hit with care. The eighteenth is a tricky Par-4 mainly involving a lake that is just waiting for the inaccurate shot.

VALE DO LOBO GOLF CLUB – ROYAL COURSE

The 18-hole championship Vale do Lobo Royal golf course, the sister course to the Ocean course, has combined several existing holes from the original Vale do Lobo course and introduced some special interesting new holes. The layout of the course is skilfully planned with a mixture of challenges slowly building up to a fine challenge on the 18th.  The famous Par 3 7th hole from the old days is now the spectacular 16th on the new course. The closing 18th is a tricky hole on which to finish, with its narrow fairway and a deceptive green.
