The tours are not just about playing great golf courses and staying in nice hotels though; they are as much about enjoying the overall experience in the company of like-minded players. We always place a great emphasis on the social side to these trips, to ensure that everyone enjoys the golf, the accommodation and the social camaraderie of the tour.
The Lee Wood Hotel, Buxton
The Lee Wood Hotel is one of the most perfectly positioned hotels in Buxton, which itself is right in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The hotel is the only 4-star hotel in Buxton. Each of the 40 bedrooms have been sympathetically furnished in keeping with the age of the hotel with all the modern comforts that one would expect. Each room comes with a modern, flat screen TV with Freeview and a Smart TV Box, so we can kick back, relax and make yourself at home by logging into your own Apps such as Netflix and BBC iPlayer. Rooms include Telephone, Hairdryer, Complimentary Toiletries, complimentary bottle of Buxton mineral water and tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel also boasts the only restaurant in Buxton to have been awarded a Rosette Award for fine dining. Indeed, the Hotel is a popular dining venue in Buxton for both local residents or guests staying at the hotel. The cuisine is prepared daily by the chefs using fresh local produce, with wines and beers hand selected from the local wine merchants and breweries.
Cavendish Golf Club
Situated in Buxton itself, Cavendish Golf Club was opened in 1925 and designed Dr Alister MacKenzie, whose list of courses includes the iconic Augusta National, home of the Masters. Cavendish is regarded by experts to be MacKenzie’s ‘Inspiration for Augusta’ and it’s easy to see why. With undulating fairways, sloping greens and well thought out hazards, there are many holes at Cavendish that definitely mirror many of those found at the Augusta National. Cavendish has been voted as a Top 100 UK Golf course for the past four years and was voted as a Top 100 Fun Course to play in 2018. Cavendish is thought by many to be quite possibly the best layout in the world under 6,000 yards, offering ‘sheer golfing enjoyment’.
Chapel en le Frith Golf Club
Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club presents an interesting and enjoyable challenge in the most beautiful countryside. The Front Nine of the course is situated on the valley floor with beautiful views of the surrounding peaks and ridges. Set on the edge of the Combs Reservoir this is a great front half with many interesting holes. The par 4 fifth presents a true golfing challenge and is one of those holes that makes you want to come back again and again! The Back Nine of the course is considered to be amongst the most testing in Derbyshire. All of the holes offer individual challenges, like the fourteenth, where you are asked to play across the pond and stop the ball within a few yards to have a reasonable chance of making a birdie. And, if you are still in contention after the fifteenth, you are faced with a real test over the final three holes with two long, tricky par fours and a par five to finish.
Buxton & High Peak Golf Club
Buxton & High Peak Golf Club, formed in 1887, and designed by J. Morris, is the oldest club in Derbyshire. The course, located in the heart of the Peak District, on the outskirts of the beautiful Spa town of Buxton, is based on free-draining Limestone, and is certainly one of the most consistently playable in the area. Often influenced by the prevailing wind, the 5,993 yard, par 69, course presents visitors with a challenging and enjoyable, test of Golf. The course has frequently been likened to an inland Links course, with the 4th, 5th, and 6th holes proving the point, and although set some 1,100 feet above sea level, the course is very easy to walk, without any arduous hill climbs.
