• Overview

The Imperial Hotel in Barnstaple, which is owned by the Brend Hotel Group who are the leading hotel group in the West Country, is a fine hotel, with old style service values, but with the modern touch in terms of quality.  Five dinners will be taken in the hotel’s excellent Restaurant, which are included in the tour cost.  For the other two evenings, Restaurants will be booked, which will allow us to sample the wide culinary delights of North Devon.

    The Imperial Hotel

The Imperial Hotel is one of North Devon’s leading luxury hotels.  The hotel is located in the heart of Barnstaple and yet it has the tranquility and warmth of an elegant country house.  The hotel provides the perfect location for exploring Barnstaple, with its historic pannier market and fabulous shops, as well of course of the superb golf courses that we will be playing during the week.  Our stay at the hotel will feature first class cuisine, outstanding service and classic river views over the River Taw.

Saunton Golf Club – East Course

The East Course at Saunton has played host to many major national and international championships during its 110-year history.  A completely natural layout set amidst the spectacular sand dunes of the Braunton Burrows, the East Course provides a peaceful environment to enjoy our round, with only the sound of the sea for company.  It also provides a great test of golf for all standards.  Nick Faldo has been one of its many fans since playing here as a boy. To quote his own words: “I’ve no doubt that if the East Course were located on the coast of Lancashire or Kent it would have hosted an Open Championship by now”.

Saunton Golf Club – West Course

Set in the shadows of the giant sand dunes of the Braunton Burrows, the West Course at Saunton is a Championship course in its own right.  In 2006, it was the venue for the British Seniors Amateur Championship with competitors taking part from all around the golfing world.  The West Course will test all parts of our game, and approach shots into the well-guarded greens need to be hit with absolute precision.  Nick Faldo suggests that “the landscape on the West Course is perhaps even more spectacular than the East course and I cannot think of anywhere in England where 36 holes could be more enjoyable”.

    Royal North Devon Golf Club

A golfing pilgrimage to Royal North Devon (England’s Oldest Links Course) is a must for anyone interested in the history of golf.  The course ‘still on its original site’ is like taking a step back in time to see how golf was played a hundred years ago.  The course however stands the test of time and is still a great test for any standard of golfer.  When visiting Royal North Devon, we must make sure that we spend some time looking around the Clubhouse.  The memorabilia and history found in the Museum is rivalled only by that found in the Royal & Ancient Clubhouse of St Andrews.

    Ilfracombe Golf Club

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Ilfracombe Golf Club boasts one of the most spectacular locations in the South West for an exhilarating round of golf.  Where you can “See the Sea from Every Tee”.  Situated on top of the rugged cliffs of the North Devon coast, every tee has an awe-inspiring view over the sea to the Welsh Coast, Lundy Island and as far as the eye can see on the Atlantic horizon.  With its own micro-climate and impeccable course maintenance Ilfracombe Golf Club welcomes guests all year round who wish to test themselves on a truly unique course.
