THE GOLF COURSES
Delsjo Golf Club
Delsjö Golf Club is one of the finest golf course in Sweden, just 5 minutes from downtown Gothenburg. The club was founded in 1962 and is one of the oldest golf clubs in Gothenburg. The course is situated in the beautiful natural reserve ‘Delsjöområdet’. The course was designed by Douglas Brasier and Frank Pennink and opened in 1965. The greens and the surrounding areas were redesigned in 2004 by Peter Chamberlain, and today it is one of very few courses in Sweden managed in an entirely environmental manner. Visitors are often thrilled by the interesting and challenging golf course, even though the overall length of the course isn’t very extensive. The new greens present a challenge for all golfers and the newly renovated clubhouse offers a fantastic restaurant including a pro shop and locker rooms with saunas. In 2009 Delsjö Golf Club was rated as the 32nd best golf course in Sweden by Golf Digest.
St Jörgen Park Golf Club
The St Jörgen Park Golf course was completed in its original format, a rather short 9-hole course, in the autumn of 1991, but has since been developed into a fine 18-hole course. The course has two distinct halves; the initial eight holes are played in a parkland environment, characterised by the Kvillebäcken brook and the enchanting Knipplekullarna hills. The final 10 holes, which are also the newest, are played in a more open environment. Automatic irrigation on the greens, tees and fairways makes it easier to keep the course in prime condition, even during dry summers.
Gothenburg Golf Club
Gothenburg Golf Club is one of the top golf courses located in the district of Hovås. The Club was formed in 1902 and is the oldest in Sweden. The original location was at Sandvik Hisingen, but it moved to Hovås two years after its inauguration. It was in 1904 that ‘Göteborgs Golfklubb’ became a member of the Gothenburg Swedish Golf Federation, and in 2002 the Club celebrated its 100-year anniversary. The course was designed by the English golf architect Andrew Persson, but further renovations were made in 1932 and 2012 in order to offer the best quality golf course possible to its guests. The course is a parkland type, not long, but very technical.
Vallda Golf Club
Vallda Golf & Country Club is one of the top golf courses situated in the municipality of Kungsbacka, which is to the south of Gothenburg. The Club had a specific vision when designing the course; a classic heathland course with unique features and top quality grass. Martin Hawtree was the man chosen to design the course back in 2010. It is undeniable that our putting skills will be challenged throughout the course. With a misjudged shot, our balls will run away into some of the difficult rough areas, which surround the fairways. An intriguing and enjoyable challenge.
Hills Golf club
The golf course was designed by two renowned golf architects, Arthur Hills and Steve Forrest. In 2005, Hills Golf Club opened and was quickly considered as one of the best golf clubs in Sweden.
The golf course has previously been voted number one in Gothenburg. It is a very undulating course, with wide fairways and cleverly placed bunkers, and the architects’ signature design is strongly felt on each hole. Players can take a different approach on every hole to reach the greens. The holes are laid out on a terrain surrounded by woodland, and there are many rocks throughout the course which can accentuate the difficulty to reaching the greens. The 13th hole is a par 3 and reflects British heathland tradition, and has many water hazards such as lakes, which ensure that players have to be careful with their golf shots.
