• Overview

Our overseas events fall into two distinct categories, ‘Golf & Coaching’ and ‘Golf Weeks.’  However, we are very conscious that many clients prefer five rounds of golf a week with the option of a Golf Clinic each day if required.  We term these weeks as ‘Golf Weeks with Clinics.’  Furthermore, we endeavour to take the concept to different locations around Europe each year.  This October we are staying at one of Spain’s oldest and best golf resorts, La Manga.  With three excellent courses on-site, very good teaching facilities, well appointed accommodation in the ‘hotel’ block of the Las Lomas Village and with easy access from Murcia and Alicante Airports, La Manga provides the ideal venue for the ‘Golf Week with Clinics.’  The week also provides very good value for money too with the airport transfers and dinners included within the programme.  We suspect that this week will prove to be popular, and with only twelve places available, we would recommend booking your place(s) in good time.

The Las Lomas Village at the La Manga Club is designed in the style of a typical Mediterranean village, and offers a tranquil setting overlooking the North Course. There are many accommodation options such as apartments and townhouses, but we will be staying in the ‘Las Lomas Serviced Deluxe Guest Rooms.’  These stylish, superbly appointed deluxe rooms provide the benefits of hotel style service, but in the unique setting of the Las Lomas Spa Village.  The modern, spacious rooms have been designed with comfort in mind and more than a touch of Mediterranean flair. What’s more, every room has its own furnished balcony with some of the finest views the La Manga Club has to offer.

The Las Lomas Village at the La Manga Club has its own private leisure facilities, which include:

    – Reception with Concierge services

    – The luxury Las Lomas Spa

    – Gymnasium

    – Sauna, steam rooms and jacuzzi

    – Two outdoor swimming pools (one heated)

    – Six-lane, 25-metre indoor swimming pool

    – Tennis court

    – Mini-market

Dinner is included within our programme for the week and there are several dining options within the Las Lomas Village & Spa.  India is the latest addition to the La Manga Club’s large choice of international restaurants, Luigi’s, the resort’s Italian restaurant, La Pérgola and La Veranda alongside the outdoor swimming pools and the Deli Café, which is ideal for breakfast and lunch.  Not to forget the unmistakeable chinese cuisine of Mr Chan’s.

The North Course is an undulating course that sprawls between palm trees, lakes and ‘barrancas’.  These natural storm gullies feature on all three golf courses and add an extra dimension to the game.  The course is slightly shorter than the South course, but has tighter fairways and larger greens.  A feature of the greens, all built to USGA specification, is the amount of movement incorporated in them, none more so than the short Par 3, 2nd, which has three distinct plateaux and which is a great test of putting.

The Championship South course is probably one of the fairest tests of golf one can find.  At 6,499 metres from the white tees, whilst being accepted as a top-calibre tournament course, it also provides a thorough test both for the scratch player and right across the handicap range. Located in the centre of the valley, with wide palm-fringed fairways and water hazards that come into play on 15 of the 18 holes, the South course holds few hidden dangers.  The many strategically positioned water hazards and bunkers will certainly punish any wayward shots. The front nine are particularly tough, with two par 3’s over 200 metres and some daunting par 4’s which will demand accurate driving between lakes and bunkers, requiring long irons or fairway woods to the green. The back nine, although shorter, has a number of intriguing dog-leg holes. Special attention should be given to both the 11th and 12th holes, which demand precise club selection to greens across water.  The stream bordering the 16th Green feeds a lake protecting the front of the green and the par 5, 18th, with water on both sides of the fairway and a ravine just short of a well-protected green, will prove to be a particularly stern finish. The South Course has been the venue for many major professional tournaments including Spanish Opens (both ladies’ and men’s), PGA Championships and Qualifying Schools for both the men’s and ladies’ European Tours.

Set amidst serene pine woodlands, the design of the West course closely follows the natural contours of the undulating land.  Its distinct character makes it a good alternative to the other, more classical championship courses.  It is a deceiving course, with frequent changes in elevation with which to contend.  The tight front nine demands accurate driving to avoid the ‘barrancas’ (natural storm gullies) while the back nine, up amongst the hills, is more open but nonetheless challenging.  The West is many golfers’ favourite, both because of its unique setting and outstanding views and because of the challenge offered by its narrow fairways, frequent blind shots and the gullies which snake through the course.  The breathtaking views, undulating fairways and fast greens make this course particularly exciting to play.

Located next to the main Clubhouse the training and practice facilities will provide us with a comprehensive short-game facility, which include:

    – 80 bay, floodlit driving range, complete with target greens

    – Large practice bunker

    – Two chipping greens

    – Large putting green

    – Practice ball dispensing machines

A one hour Golf Clinic will be held on each of the five days that we play golf.  Please treat the clinics as an opportunity for me to work with you on facets of your game that you wish to look at.
