Our location for the tour is the iconic medieval town of Sandwich, charming in its own right and blessed with a plethora of stunning links golf courses. We will be playing the links at Prince’s Golf Club, as well as a round at Walmer & Kingsdown Golf Club, with its spectacular views across the English Channel. The third course for this tour is the wonderful Harry Colt designed course at Canterbury Golf Club. Three quite distinct course layouts, links, cliff top and heathland and all with tremendous character.
And character features in our hotel too, which is the Bell Hotel in the heart of Sandwich. One of the best hotels in the town, brimming with Edwardian charm and ambience, the Bell is the perfect location for our tour of Kent. To provide convenience and as reflection of the quality of the hotel restaurant, we have also included dinner at the hotel on the three evenings of the tour.
Whilst playing some of the best golf courses in the area and staying in a fine hotel, the emphasis is equally on the social side of the tour. We want you to have a thoroughly enjoyable few days, in the company of like-minded players, and we will do all that we can to ensure that this is the case.
The Bell Hotel
From the moment we step through the Edwardian revolving doors at The Bell, a delightful, traditional hotel greets us, brimming with character and a touch of chic, modern magic. Set in an enviable spot overlooking the River Stour, The Bell has been welcoming guests to Kent since Tudor times, and despite extensive refurbishment in recent years, the hotel has retained many of its charming period features. The result is some of the finest accommodation in Sandwich, which promises to leave us feeling refreshed and revitalised each day. The hotel also boasts a beautiful pub, restaurant and terrace with some of the town’s finest food and drink.
Canterbury Golf Club
Harry Shapland Colt, one of the finest course designers to have ever lived, created the masterpiece that is Canterbury Golf Course. In 1927 the course opened for play and it has been evolving ever since. Its 80th year has seen changes to the 18th hole. A reshape and reinstatement of the traditional gorse and broom has made the closing hole at Canterbury one of the best. A super course with which to conclude our golf tour of Kent.
Walmer & Kingsdown Golf Club
Established in 1909, the Walmer & Kingsdown Golf Club is based high up on the very edge of White Cliffs country between Dover and Deal. James Braid designed the course around the natural landscape and made sure it was rich with panoramic views and an abundance of plants and wildlife. It is a stunning downland course set on top of the White Cliffs offering great views of the Channel.
Prince’s Golf Club
Prince’s Golf Club boasts 27 holes of championship links in three 9-hole loops, The Shore, The Dunes and The Himalayas. Each loop has its own unique characteristics that have recently benefited from substantial investment and redevelopment. An impressive array of 97 rivetted bunkers, includes the now famous Sarazen Bunker. Rolling greens and seaside breezes make for challenging golf, at what is one of the finest links courses in England.
