The Old Thorns Hotel, Liphook
Set on 400 acres of picturesque Hampshire countryside, the Old Thorns Hotel & Resort offers a super experience for our stay. The Old Thorns Manor Hotel is built around an idyllic 17th-century building offering luxury accommodation, health & spa facilities, and an 18-hole championship golf course. The Elevation Health Club, with panoramic views across the golf course, also provides us with a 20-metre swimming pool and wellness suite featuring a sauna and steam room. A range of treatments can be reserved at the Old Thorns spa. Dining options include the Kings Restaurant, which has a brasserie menu and is famous for its Sunday carvery, and the more relaxed Sports Bar, with a bar menu and sporting theme. The Atrium Champagne& Cocktail bar is available for drinks and afternoon tea.
Royal Winchester Golf Club
Royal Winchester is a challenging and undulating 18-hole course, designed by JH Taylor and is built on typical Hampshire Downland with majestic views over north east Hampshire. The course drains exceptionally well, and play is continuous throughout the year. The course does not date back quite as far as the city’s famous 11th century cathedral, but it is over 100 years old. Stretching to 6,387 yards from the back tees, the course plays to a par of 72, with fairways laid out across pleasantly undulating downland. A bunker renovation programme was completed in 2017, with in-house staff installing EcoBunkers to deliver badger-proof banks and a gentler sand profile which is resilient to sand wash down. Highlights of the course include the par three 7th (played to a sand-protected raised green), back-to-back par fives at the 9th and 10th, the long, stroke index 1 par four 15th, and the 355-yard 18th, where a ‘bomb-hole bunker’ guards the front of the 3-tiered home green.
Old Thorns Golf Club
Set in the scenic Hampshire countryside, the 6,288-yard Par 72 golf course at Old Thorns Golf Club was designed by the BBC’s late ‘voice of Golf’ Peter Alliss and provides a great test for all abilities. From elevated tees and tree lined fairways to holes featuring lakes and creeks every hole offers a different challenge. Old Thorns 18-hole golf course is much more than a traditional hotel course. With water hazards, woodland and deceptive greens, it can be a challenge, but an enjoyable one.
Cowdray Park Golf Club
The course at Cowdray Park is set amongst the beautiful South Downs and forms part of The Viscount Cowdray’s 16,000 acres estate. Overlooking the ruins of the old Cowdray House, golf was first played here in 1904 and the course has now matured into what is without doubt one of the most beautiful tracks in the south east. Measuring 6,212 yards, the par 70 layout boasts the very latest in fairway irrigation and sprinkler systems and together with its sandy soil, is able to maintain its superb condition throughout the whole year.
