    THE GOLF COURSES

    Kennemer Golf & Country Club

Founded on December 11th, 1910, the Kennemer Golf & Country Club moved to its present location in 1928, to a course newly designed by Harry Colt. Since then, additions have been made based on Colt’s initial design principles, leading to the present 27 holes. The Kennemer Golf & Country Club is the oldest links course in the Netherlands and is often named amongst the most beautiful courses in the world. The course is located just behind the sea in undulating dunes and consists of three sets of nine holes, namely the A-holes (Van Hengel course), the B-holes (the Pennink course) and the C-holes (the Colt course). The courses are named after former executive and honorary member Mr. SJH van Hengel and golf architects Frank Pennink and Harry Colt. The course has an open character; hence wind is an important factor. Whether amateur or professional, you will be challenged by the unique design, the heavy rough and the prevailing south-westerly wind. The Kennemer Golf & Country Club has hosted many national and international amateur and professional tournaments. The Dutch Open has been played here on numerous occasions. Visitors will also enjoy the historic clubhouse, also built in 1928, which offers stunning views over the course, as well as a relaxing environment for drinks, lunch or dinner.

    Noordwijkse Golf & Country Club

The Noordwijkse Golf Club is situated near the North Sea shore and dates back to 1915, when it was a 9-hole course. In 1972, golf course architect Frank Pennink created a new 18-hole course set amongst the dunes and just 5km north of the original one. This fantastic links course has played host to the Dutch Open nine times, with winners including Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie. The course is spread over 68 hectares of beautiful dune land with spectacular views. Although the course has no water hazards and very few bunkers, the strong winds and undulating terrain make this course a challenge for all handicaps. The course is kept in pristine condition and is well-placed to play the other excellent golf courses in the area.

    The International Golf Club

The International is a unique club in the Netherlands. The distinctive character of The International is mainly in the contemporary nature of the golf course, the Clubhouse and the Members. The atmosphere on the course and inside the Clubhouse is relaxed and open, based on complete equality. A day at The International is completely dedicated to enjoyment and the team at The International is doing everything to guarantee it. The golf course was designed by Ian Woosnam in combination with Mastergolf and is arguably one of the most beautiful in the Netherlands. The design of the course makes optimal use of the very hilly terrain, with differences in altitude up to 14 meters, and has challenging water hazards. The holes are very different, both in layout and in terms of challenge, from an extremely long hole without bunkers to a very short hole with no less than eight bunkers surrounding the green, from narrow straight holes with descending fairways to artful doglegs with sometimes even blind shots. The greens are large, fast and very well thought out, designed in such a way that a large number of exciting pin positions are possible. In addition, the greens are alternately protected by water hazards, strategically constructed bunkers and serious height differences, or a combination of both. Between the holes there is a natural hilly landscape, so almost everywhere on the course you have the pleasant feeling of being the only on the course. That pleasant feeling is enhanced by the beauty of many materials used, such as the beautiful Portuguese natural stones of the paths, the facing and the indication of the holes. The Clubhouse is also largely made of this beautiful stone, making everything on and around the complex a beautiful and harmonious experience.

    The Royal Hague Golf Club

The Royal Hague Golf Club is the oldest golf club in Holland and was founded in 1893 on linksland that was destroyed during World War II. The Club’s current course was actually designed by Harry Colt for a wealthy Dutch golfer in 1938, who then sold the layout to the homeless golf club in the late 1940’s. Despite its location, two miles from the North Sea, Royal Hague is a dramatic big dune course that has a strong seaside feeling with mighty fairways that crash and tumble constantly and feature little shaping or man-made design outside the typically understated green sites. Some holes are almost dizzying in their scale, plunging and rising with dramatic proportions. Giving the layout its teeth are a number of heroic drives over ravines and gullies, plus fierce back tees on holes such as the 6th, 7th, 8th, 13th and 16th. Course highlights include the short 7th, which is a terrific hole blind over a hill then down to a delicious green nestled beside a large dune. The tumbling and rising 9th is another fine hole as is the more subtle 11th and the wild 15th with its green beside a hill and beyond a frontal mound. The sidehill 16th across a ravine and then a small knoll, and the tree-lined par five finisher are also dynamic golf holes.
