• Overview

    The Burton Hotel, Kington

The Burton Hotel has been under the same family ownership for over 35 years and is being continually modernised.  The hotel’s stunning swimming pool, gym and spa make it a wonderful base for our tour of the Herefordshire and Mid-Wales region.  Furthermore, the hotel even has their very own all-weather 9-hole putting course.   The accommodation offers all the modern comforts that one expects.  Each of our deluxe ensuite bedrooms are decorated in a contemporary style and have super king-size beds, a sofa bed, desk, free Wi-Fi, television, mini fridge and complimentary tea and coffee.  Large fluffy towels, bathrobes, slippers and complimentary toiletries are also provided.

    Builth Wells Golf Club

Builth Wells Golf Club is a stunningly beautiful 18-hole parkland golf course situated in picturesque Mid Wales.  The golf club was founded in 1923 as a traditional parkland course on farmland that had some 650 years earlier seen the massacre of 3,000 foot soldiers, the army of the last native Prince of Wales, Llewelyn ap Gruffydd, who were ambushed as they tried to cross the River Irfon to reach Builth Castle.  Times have changed since then, I might add!  Originally a 9-hole course, it became 18 holes in 1986/1987 when farmland from Park Farm was purchased to construct the new 9 holes. The golf course is a fairly easy walking parkland, with subtle changes in elevation and using the natural characteristics such as woodland, ponds and the River Chewfri.  The course is very much a course of ‘two nines’ with the back nine being very tricky, with accuracy rather than distance the name of the game! Once played, never forgotten, as it is a beautiful golf course.

    Cradoc Golf Club

Cradoc golf course is noted for its natural surroundings, abundance of wildlife, and mature tree lined fairways, and there is the occasional water hazard too!  Players of all abilities are offered a challenging, yet entertaining test of their golf.  The Club is regularly rated in the Top 30 courses in Wales.  Situated alongside the spectacularly beautiful scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Cradoc Golf Club is a wonderful golfing retreat that once played, will live long in the memory.

    Kington Golf Club

Kington Golf Club is the highest 18-hole golf course in England and is rated very highly in the latest Top 100 rankings by Golf World / Today’s Golfer and National Club Golfer magazines.  Although the course rises to 1,284ft above sea-level at its highest point, do not be alarmed, as the majority of the climbing is done in the car on the way to the Clubhouse!  The golf-course was designed in 1926 by Major Cecil Hutchison (who helped to design Gleneagles) and is set in glorious National Trust property. The course overlooks the rich agricultural land of Herefordshire and the Welsh borders and offers unrivalled panoramic views of The Brecon Beacons, The Black Mountains, The Clee Hills, The Shropshire Hills and the Malvern Hills. The terrain at Kington Golf Club has been described as an inland-links and it offers well-draining, springy moorland turf often playable when other local courses are water-logged. At Kington, you will be warmly welcomed not only by the skylarks but also by the PGA Professional and the friendly bar and catering staff.  The Clubhouse offers a wide range of refreshments and distant views over many miles.
