To improve your game, don’t just focus on the swing. The shots for 40 yards and less are just as important and you have to be great from 6 feet and less as well so that when you hit a good shot, you hole the putt too! So my message is that, yes, the long game matters but in golf you need a complete set of skills. This takes time, so a golf and clinic programme with a trusted coach is a great way to get lasting improvement.
We will be playing some of the top courses in Majorca again, and when Sam and I host the Golf Clinics, we will have two groups, who will spend time with both of us each day. We are also always happy to offer advice once out on the course. The courses that we are playing are Son Vida, T-Golf Palma, Son Quint and Son Muntaner, which we will play twice. The hotel for the week is the Leonardo Portals Hotel, which is ideally located for the courses, as well as visiting restaurants in the evenings. With over 300 days of sunshine a year and mild winters, Majorca is the ideal location for our November ‘Golf Week with Clinics’, and a superb venue to introduce Sam to our DSG clientele.

Overview
The Leonardo Portals Hotel, Portals Nous, Majorca
Located in one of Mallorca’s top locations, in Portals Nous, the Leonardo Portals Hotel provides everything we need for a relaxing stay. With the luxurious yacht harbour of Port Portals and white sanded beaches just around the corner, as well as the golf courses that we are playing, being within a short drive, the hotel offers the perfect location for our week in Majorca.
Due to the full refurbishment in 2013, the hotel is equipped with luxurious and modern features. Indeed, one of the many highlights of the hotel is the great Sky Bar on the rooftop terrace, offering incredible views over the sea and the town. It is the perfect place for us to relax after our golf.
Son Vida Golf Club
Son Vida is the oldest golf course of Mallorca, opened in 1964, and has a legendary status among the players from all over Europe. Its fairways run through mature trees on the prestigious estate of Son Vida, with spectacular views over the Bay of Palma. The technical design of the course, the speed of the greens and the many hazards require an intelligent golfing strategy to score well. Son Vida often looks very tight from the tee but the fairways open out to reach a fair width. The main hazards are the greenside bunkers, a few water hazards on the closing holes and the pine, palm and almond trees. Hawtree made good use of hilly terrain to shape the course, he designed tricky greens which are not very large and are slightly elevated and included several doglegs, giving golfers the opportunity to take risks and try and cut the corners. Son Vida has hosted two European Tour events; the Balearic Open won by Seve Ballesteros and Barry Lane.
T Golf Palma Golf Course
T Golf Palma an 18 holes course par 71, on an estate of around 165 acres. The difficulty of the course is average, athough it can reach high levels from the back tees. It has a total length of around 6,591 yards out from the white tees, where high-precision holes and holes for great hitters are displayed. The course has been designed according to the topography of the land bringing into play the natural vegetation composed of pines, wild olive trees, carob-trees and bushes. This, together with the absence of buildings along the course make for a great golf experience. Golf Park Puntiró was acquired by T CLUB in April 2022. The course has been restored and brought to its original design with revamped fairways, bunkers, water hazards and greens. The Club has also planted ‘Piranya’ grass which is considered one of the best varieties in the world for golf greens and the course is the first to use it in Europe.
Son Quint Golf Club
Son Quint is one of the newest golf courses of the island, opened in 2007. This long and open course allows a more extensive game, which makes players of all levels enjoy. Perched high on the hillside, this golf course has splendid views. From the high point at the 8th tee, you can see across the Bay of Palma and the wonderful Cathedral, the old town´s landmark. The designers have created a challenging and interesting 18-hole golf course that runs through beautiful Mallorcan countryside. It is a pretty layout with many undulating fairways that takes players past old pine trees and olive trees as they make their way around the course. Son Quint also boasts an excellent clubhouse with a pool. A wide range of native vegetation gives you the feeling of an authentic, characteristic and Mediterranean atmosphere at this modern and elegant course. Son Quint is one of three championship courses in the area, close to Palma. They are the traditional Son Vida course, the recently built Son Muntaner course and the newest addition to the family, the Son Quint course.
Son Muntaner Golf Club
Located in a unique spot between the mountains and the Bay of Palma and surrounded by a beautiful Mediterranean environment, Son Muntaner offers golfers a real challenge. Son Muntaner has been designed to fit in perfectly with its Mediterranean environment and is lined with almond trees, carobs, pine and olive trees. It is a course with many memorable holes and will require every club in your bag. It is an excellent parkland course and the toughest of the three courses at Son Vida Park. Whilst not excessively long, some holes are very challenging, like the 5th, an uphill Par 3 stretching some 225 yards. A special feature of this golf course is on the 15th hole where you will see ‘Na Capitana’, the 1,000-year-old olive tree, unique on the island, and protected by the Mallorcan authorities. In 2009 Son Muntaner hosted a prestigious skins match between José María Olazábal, Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer and Robert Karlsson, true testimony to its quality all four players gave the course rave reviews. Son Muntaner also has a driving range, a putting green and a pitching area.
