Singapore is a truly extraordinary island. Asian by location and culture, completely westernised in terms of commerce and infrastructure and the British colonial past everywhere to be seen. Not only that, Singapore is a huge sea port; as you fly into land, you just see hundreds of ships in the waterways around the island. Singapore is haven for shopping, superb restaurants; it is multi cultural and so very diverse. Oh and so clean too! It is as if Singapore is the doorway from the west to Asia and vice-versa. And there are some superb golf courses, the Tanjong Course at Sentosa and the Warren Golf & Country Club, the two that we will be playing. Singapore is fascinating; it’s past, as well as its present. And with ten days to follow in Bali which is the ultimate retreat from the stresses and strains of daily life, Singapore provides a wonderful location to start our November tour, a stepping stone from the western world to Asia.
We have organised the four nights in Singapore as a pre-Bali extension, in order to extend the November Asia tour to 14 nights. There are plenty of flights into Singapore and the onward journey to Bali is just over two hours. I hope that you can join me for what will be another enchanting and unique experience in Asia.
If you wish to book your place(s) on the China or Bali tours, please let us know and we act accordingly.
Saturday 15th November – Welcome to Singapore
As you come into land in Singapore, you peer down to the sea below and find ship after ship after ship, from huge container vessels, to cruise liners, to yachts. It is as if this is the place where all boats and ships come to meet! Once on land and traveling into the centre of the City, you notice that everywhere is so clean, the road system is just like at home, there are parks, sports fields, shopping malls, a home from home, but at the gateway to Asia. As the skyline of the business district of the city comes into view, you sense the energy and vibrancy of business; the City of London and Wall Street, Singapore style. Once you are settled in and start to explore the City, the restaurants, shopping malls, the underground tube system, the network of walkways beneath the ground to avoid the heat, it is an amazing reality of what was once an inspirational vision. You just have to take it all in and enjoy it for what it is. Our hotel for the tour is the 4 star Oasia Hotel, which is close the vibrant Orchard Road, a stroll away from the metro system which connects to all corners of the island. The hotel is modern, provides superb quality and is ideally located for us to experience all that is Singapore, as well as reaching the two golf courses. We only have four days, and there is much to see and do!
Overnight: The Oasia Hotel, Near Orchard Road, Singapore (4 Star)
Sunday 16th November – Exploring Singapore
We will spend the morning in the company of an experienced tour guide being shown some of the diversity of Singapore. We will visit ‘Little India,’ ‘Chinatown,’ the Singapore Botanic Gardens, the National Orchid Garden and the Merlion which looks out over Marina Bay. We will then have the afternoon to explore this fascinating island at our leisure, with its plethora of designer shops and exclusive restaurants. The metro system is superb, taxis are affordable, and nowhere is too far away to explore.
Overnight: The Oasia Hotel, Near Orchard Road, Singapore (4 Star)
Monday 17th November – Sentosa Golf Club – Tanjong Course
Our first round of golf is at the spectacular Tanjong Course at Sentosa Golf Club. Opened in 1972, the Tanjong Course was originally designed by Frank Pennick. In 1993, with an investment of S$40 million, the course was re-modeled and a spectacular new clubhouse was built. Golf course designer Max Wexler and course architect Chris Pitman made good use of the undulating terrain to create a course like no other. New contours were created, featuring natural hazards, freshwater lakes, towering trees, rolling fairways with narrow landing areas and well-guarded Bermuda Tifdwarf grass, all with the South China Sea forming a picturesque backdrop.
Tuesday 18th November – The Warren Golf & Country Club
Our second round of golf takes us to the Warren Golf & Country Club. Designed by Nelson & Haworth, the 18-hole championship golf course is a Par 71 with a maximum playing distance of 6,234m. The course is located on the southern bank of the Kranji Reservoir. The scenic beauty of the golf course can be admired at a number of holes, where the reservoir forms the backdrop of the golf course, providing us with breathtaking views during our play. In addition to the scenic view, the course is known for its undulating fairways and greens as well as the canals and ponds at selected golf holes which increase the level of challenge that awaits us.
Wednesday 19th November – Onwards to Bali
Our short, but fascinating insight into Singapore comes to a close, but ahead of us we can look forward to ten days of mesmeric Asian charm and relaxation. There are numerous daily flights from Singapore to Bali and they are inexpensive too. If you require assistance with the flights from Singapore to Bali, please let us know and we will refer you to our associate Travel Agent, Select World Travel. Transfers will be provided throughout the day from the hotel to the airport for the flights to Bali.
